Company Overview

Douglas Stephen Plastics is a family-owned and operated company based in Paterson, NJ and has been in business since 1959. Our company was established with an understanding of the dis-tributor and end-user marketplace and also a clear vision of the type of disposable products that were missing from the industry. In fact, our founder was a distributor sales rep himself therefore giving him an understanding of the many challenges that companies face in theever-changing Food Service industry.

From the beginning, Douglas Stephen Plastics led the industry by developing and manufacturing some of the first disposable, injection-molded plastic catering items ever produced. Thermo-forming equipment was later added to produce a number of new products.

Today, Douglas Stephen Plastics continues to be an industry leader. Our Sales and Marketing efforts now extends throughout the United States through a network of distributors and broker organizations. We have dramatically expanded our products offering them an even broader line of both injection-molded and thermoformed products. A clear example of this expansion is our Ultimate Cater Service that includes, Stakmates Trays and Embassy Trays & Bowls. Material Guide

One of the most common methods of shaping plastic resins is a process called injection molding. Injection molding is accomplished by large machines called injection molding machines.

Resin is fed to the machine through the hopper. Colorants are usually fed into the machine di-rectly after the hopper. The resins enter the injection barrel by gravity through the feed throat. Upon entrance into the barrel, the resin is heated to the appropriate melting temperatures.

The resin is injected into the mold by a reciprocating screw or a ram injector. The reciprocating screw apparatus is shown above. The reciprocating screw offers the advantage of being able to inject a smaller percentage of the total shot (amount of melted resin in the barrel). The ram injector must typically inject at least 20% of the total shot while a screw injector can inject as little as 5% of the total shot. Essentially, the screw injector is better suited for producing smaller parts.

The mold is the part of the machine that receives the plastic and shapes it appropriately. The mold is cooled constantly to a temperature that allows the resin to solidify and be cool to the touch. The mold plates are held together by hydraulic or mechanical force. The clamping force is defined as the injection pressure multiplied by the total cavity projected area. Typically molds are over designed depending on the resin to be used. Each resin has a calculated shrink-age value associated within.

Vacuum forming is a plastic thermoforming process that involves forming thermoplastic sheets into three-dimensional shapes through the application of heat and pressure. In general terms, vacuum form-ing refers to all sheet forming methods, including drape forming, which is one of the most popular. Basi-cally during vacuum forming processes, plastic material is heated until it becomes pliable, and then it is placed over a mold and drawn in by a vacuum until it takes on the desired shape. Vacuum thermoforming is a great method for producing plastic parts that have sharp details and fits nicely to specific products.

How Do We Do It ?

Basics of Vacuum Forming

During the vacuum forming process, a sheet of heated plastic material is placed over a male or female mold. The mold then moves towards the sheet and press-es against it to create a seal. Next, the application of a vacuum draws out the air between the mold and the sheet so that the plastic conforms to the mold exactly. This is accomplished through venting holes in the mold that are joined to vacuum lines. The mold also has a water cooling system integrated into it that brings the temperature of the plastic to the set temperature needed. When the curing temperature is reached and the piece is formed, air blows back into the mold and separates the new part from the mold.

Vacuum forming produces plastic parts for various industries, such as the food, cosmetic, medical, electronics, entertainment, household products, toys, ath-letic equipment, appliance, automotive, office supplies and clothing industries. One of the most important industries that thermoforming serves, however, is packaging. Products like blister packs, inserts, trays and clamshells are used to house other products and are important for both preservation of the items they hold and the aesthetic designs they can provide. Consumer product manufac-turers often use vacuum forming to produce plastic trays and glasses.

The greatest advantage to vacuum forming is that it involves less parts and tooling than injection molding, and therefore is more cost-effective. It is an economical choice that can be used for small and medium production runs, with low cost tool modifications. There is great design flexibility available, from a variety of prototypes to custom made designs that can be used to cover almost any product. Most manufacturers also offer a wide variety of trim and other decoration options that can prove quite a visual advantage. Time of production is generally short, which frees up time to do more detail-oriented aspects of production. Sharp, precise detail is available for many products, which makes vacuum formed plastics an attractive alternative to other molding processes.

Douglas Stephen Plastics offers Glasscaps in a variety of sizes ranging from 51mm-96mm. We have artwork on file for a number of hotel chains.

Hospitality will take on a new meaning when you use one of our clear RPET Glasscaps. While keeping the glass sterile and sanitized, your guests will also appreciate that elegant touch.Obtaining a perfect fit for your glassware is made easy by using our sample sizing kits. Glasscaps are available in plain, or they can be embossed or color printed with a customized signature (see Product Branding section).

The advantage of working with Douglas Stephen Plastics for your packaging needs is demonstrated in the variety of branding/customization capabilities we offer. Why offer packaging that is generic when, for reasonable minimums/upcharges/investments, you can have packaging branded with logo’s and custom colors.

DSP’s in house tool and die shop allows us to create custom molds that are designed to specifically meet your pack-aging needs. When combined with our ability to extrude HIPS, PP and PET in custom colors, plus our embossing and printing programs, DSP has the ability to create packaging that is truly unique.

EN*VISIONOur PRIDE WITH PRINTING PROGRAM! We have the capability of printing 1 and 2 color logos on a variety of our products. With a very reasonable 1000 piece minimum and plate charges, En*Vision will provide name recognition and a custom package experience.

EMBOSSINGVirtually all DSP products can be embossed with logos. Reasonable production minimums and plate charges allow customers to personalize products. A great way to make a generic package custom!

CUSTOM MATERIAL COLORSWith our own in-house extrusion, DSP is capable of running products in custom colors- HIPS, PET and PP. Pack-aging makes a bold statement when color is involved. Minimum orders vary depending on the product involved.

Terms & Conditions of SalesCredit Terms1% 10 days, net 30 days from date of invoice

Minimum Order/Freight• 150 cases for Pre-paid delivered pricing.• Orders less than 150 cases will be shipped plus freight.• Shipments of Douglas Stephen Plastics products as shown in catalog are F.O.B. the shipping point, with full freight pre-paid (150 cases minimum) within the Continental U.S.A. except Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.• All shortages and claims for damaged merchandise is the responsibility of the buyer to be properly reported and/or recorded on the Bill of Lading.* Any merchandise claimed to be damaged in transit must be held for disposition by Douglas Stephen Plastics or the freight company. If freight is not held, no credit will be issued.• All additional services and charges by the carrier, including stopover charges, lumper fees and other accessorial charges are the responsibility of the buyer.• Douglas Stephen Plastics reserves the right of carrier selection and of shipment via most economical routing. If shipped at buyer’s request, buyer shall pay additional transportation costs.• Douglas Stephen Plastics reserves the right to maximize cube utilization trailers and containers by capping shipments.

Purchase Order Requirements• All orders must be in writing and include the following information: • Douglas Stephen Plastics’ item number • Number of cases ordered • Price per case • Purchase order number • Expected delivery date • Delivery address • Delivery appointment phone number • Customer’s fax number

Lead Time• Orders for stock items are generally available to ship within 14 days of receipt of order by Douglas Stephen Plastics.* Orders requiring expedited delivery service will be subject to additional freight charges that will be the responsibility of the buyer.

Backorder Policy • DouglasStephenPlasticswillshipallorderstoarriveonthedeliverydateregardlessoffillrate.• Any backorders that occur on orders that DSP is given the required lead time will be shipped, when available, at DSP expense.• Requests to ship a backorder, where orders have not been placed with the required lead time, will be shipped at the buyer’s expense.

Special Order Policy• Lead times and minimum quantities will vary by special order item and material.• Once shipped, special order items are not subject to return under any circumstances (as long as the product conforms to the order).• Purchaseorders for special order itemsmaynot be canceledwithoutwritten notification and full reimbursement toDouglasStephen Plastics for all loss, cost and expense incurred to the date of cancellation.

Returned Merchandise Policy• No return items will be accepted without prior approval.• Product must be returned within six (6) months from shipment and invoicing by Douglas Stephen Plastics.• Prior to making any return, buyer must obtain a written Return Merchandise Autorization (RMA) number and shipping instructions from Douglas Stephen Plastics.• Product must be returned Pre-paid freight, • The amount of credit issued by Douglas Stephen Plastics will be the price paid by the customer less a 15% restocking fee.• All products being returned must be in good saleable condition and in original unopened cartons; otherwise credit will not be issued. No credit will be issued for partial cases.• Embossed, special order items and/or products discontinued by Douglas Stephen Plastics are not eligible for return.• Product not authorized for return will be refused back to the carrier at the buyers’ expense.

Terms & Conditions of Sales

Samples• Samples of DSP products shown are available upon request. Buyer is responsible for verifying that the product in the Douglas Stephen Plasticsbrochurewillfittheirparticularrequirement.

Customer Pick-Up Policy• Purchase orders need to clearly indicate “Pick-up”.• Pick-up allowances apply to orders that are 150 cases or more. • Pick-up allowances are to be quoted by an authorized representative of Douglas Stephen Plastics.• All products picked up at the DSP facility are sold on a F.O.B. basis.• The driver of the vehicle is responsible for count and in assisting in the loading of the vehicle. Any shortage, damage, or loss is the buyer’s responsibility.• Pick-up appointments are required at least 48 hours in advance.

Art and Mold/Insert Charge Policy• The buyer understands that all custom molds and inserts will remain the property of Douglas Stephen Plastics.• Any art, mold and insert charges paid by the buyer only represent a contribution toward the total cost incurred by Douglas Stephen Plastics. General Terms• Prices are subject to change with notice.* AllordersaresubjecttofinalacceptancebyDouglasStephenPlasticsatitsofficesinPaterson,NJ.• Products are subject to withdrawal from sale without notice.• Douglas Stephen Plastics warrants only that its products will be free of substantial defects; all other express or implied warranties, including merchantabilityandfitnessforaparticularpurpose,areexpresslydisclaimedunlessspecificallyagreedbyDouglasStephenPlastics.• Buyer’s sole remedy for any breach of Douglas Stephen Plastics’ obligation shall be the return to buyer the amount paid for any product for which there has been a breach or the replacement of such product and under no circumstances shall Douglas Stephen Plastics by liable for any consequential or incidental damages. All claims concerning the products must be made by buyer within 60 days of delivery to it, after which time the products shall be conclusively deemed to be in conformity with all warranties of Douglas Stephen Plastics.• DouglasStephenPlasticsshallnotbeliableforanyfailureordelayinshipmentofproductscausedbyorresultinginaccidents,fires,floods, acts of God, labor strikes, transportation delays, equipment failures, unavailability of materials any action of any governmental authority or from any causes beyond Douglas Stephen Plastics control.• If Douglas Stephen Plastics engages an attorney to collect any amounts due it from buyer, Douglas Stephen Plastics will be entitled to recovery of its attorney’s fees and costs. The parties agree that the courts of the state from where the products are shipped by Douglas Stephen Plastics shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all controversies arising out of the sale of products to buyer and each of the parties consents to service of process upon it in such state by registered mail at any business address of Douglas Stephen Plastics or buyer, whether such address is within or without the state from which the products are shipped.
