This double page spread follows the rule of thirds which is a convention. Usually there tends to be a two colour scheme, and this follows this a bit. Some of the captions are written in red. Most of the colour of the font is black and this could link to target audience. The article itself is written in size 12 font, which is typically a convention.

Page 4: Double page spread analysis

This tells us when the documentary will be broadcast, written in small black font. This could possibly be layed out like this to focus the attention on the article.

Masthead/Header – written in bold, big font to stand out from the rest of the page and to show what the article is about, not just necessarily about the documentary. Its all usually written in bold, but there’s both thin and bold.

This is the Standfirst. This gives the background context to the article and establishes what the article is about. This is a byline – this is image credit and tells

the audience who the people in the pictures are – Caption tells us who’s in the images

Possible Dropcaps - these number the tips for the reader. The font in bold could possibly counted as small captions

Main article image – both the people in the image are directing their attention to the audience. This is direct address. They also have food which is a prop. This is related to the article. - Convention

There’s another article image – someone who is from the show or related to the show. This is a secondary image

Because this a tv listings magazine, they state the date of the week at the bottom of the page

Page numbers are conventions of magazines in general.

Pull quote – This is usually a convention within music magazines, this usually attracts the viewer into watching the show.

I did this to help us understand codes and conventions of double page spreads within tv listings magazines such as the Radio times. Therefore we can make a post of us understanding the codes and conventions of double page spreads. I also did this to help us understand what we are going to include in our own double page spread, commence a draft and actually create it.
