Doty Digest Principal’s Corner 8/30/21 Greetings Doty Families! Seeing how I have sent 7 million emails to all of you in the past two weeks, I dont have a ton to report here to you all today. You will see a welcome letter from Lori Shepard in this issue of the Digest. Lori has taken over for Chris Cadorette as our athletic director. Im really excited to have her on board. She has a life-long love of athletics. Lori also deeply be- lieves that elementary sports are about kids learning and having fun. Our prima- ry goal is for kids to find any hidden sports passions they may have, to develop mastery of basic skills, to learn the elements of good sportsmanship, and to have fun! This week we will be working on routines, especially in the cafeteria. Weve had a year away from eating together and we have been making some changes to the lunch routine on the fly to make sure that kids are able to get their food, enjoy their lunches, have good conversations, and stay safe all at the same time. I dont have anything else to report at this time. If you havent sent in the back to school paperwork yet, please get that in. As always, thank you for sharing your students with us! Gillian

Greetings Doty Families!

Seeing how I have sent 7 million emails to all of you in the past two weeks, I don’t have a ton to report here to you all today.

You will see a welcome letter from Lori Shepard in this issue of the Digest. Lori has taken over for Chris Cadorette as our athletic director. I’m really excited to have her on board. She has a life-long love of athletics. Lori also deeply be-lieves that elementary sports are about kids learning and having fun. Our prima-ry goal is for kids to find any hidden sports passions they may have, to develop mastery of basic skills, to learn the elements of good sportsmanship, and to have fun!

This week we will be working on routines, especially in the cafeteria. We’ve had a year away from eating together and we have been making some changes to the lunch routine on the fly to make sure that kids are able to get their food, enjoy their lunches, have good conversations, and stay safe all at the same time.

I don’t have anything else to report at this time. If you haven’t sent in the back to school paperwork yet, please get that in. As always, thank you for sharing your students with us! Gillian

Wednesday, Sept 15- 6:00-9:00pm, WCUUSD Board Meeting, Remote

Welcome back! I’m happy to see the kids back at school and am looking forward to a great year!

A few reminders:

Please return all paperwork ASAP. This is how I know who may be in need of what throughout the day, and what permissions we have as far as sunscreen, calamine lotion and the occasional tylenol for headaches. I am always available to review any health concerns you may have for your kiddos while at school.

Parents/caregivers should be masked when dropping off or picking up stu-dents. Pre-K parents are allowed to enter Doty during drop off, and should be wearing a mask and utilizing the hand sanitizer found in the school entryway.

Kindergarten parents should now drop their children off at the front door. If a child is having a hard time with drop off, you may bring them to the side door of Kinder-garten and drop off there.

If your child is in need of medications during the day, please let me know. There is a form that is needed before we can start administering medications at school.

I round on all of the classes 2-3 times per day. This is to build relationships with the kids, be available to answer any questions they have and address any concerns they are having (cuts, bumps, bruises, hurt feelings etc)

Masks are required in school buildings. If you are in need of masks, please let me know as I do have some donations available still. Each child should have 3-5 masks per day in their bag.

Masks must be over nose and mouth and cannot be a bandana, gaiter or have a vent.

September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month and I will be sharing resources and information throughout the month.

Be Well and wash your hands! :) Jess

Four Winds Nature Program:

Join Our Team of Volunteers!

The Four Winds Nature Program is coming back to Doty this year, and we need a few new volunteers! This program (which is an outgrowth of the ELF program that some of you may remember from some years ago) encourages kids to bring their natural curiosity outdoors to explore nearby nature and to ask questions, and then gives them the opportunity, knowledge and skills to discover answers (as well as lots of new questions!)

Here’s how it works: A Four Winds naturalist meets with parent and community volunteers, offering a training session each month, to prepare volunteers to bring lessons into our children’s “classrooms.” This year all the instruction and activi-ties will be outdoors. The lessons are based on a year-long theme, such as “Ecosystems” or “Cycles in Nature.” This year’s theme is “Patterns.”

The time commitment is for five lessons this year, with a two-hour training workshop for each lesson, and then up to 90 minutes for class activities. The training workshops will probably be on Mondays, but we haven’t set those dates or times yet, and we will try to be flexible around people’s schedules. (Right now we’re proposing our first training for Monday, September 20 – morn-ing or afternoon is not yet decided.)

We want to have at least two volunteers in each class, and new volunteers will be teamed with experienced folks. Those of us who’ve been doing this for a while can assure you that there are lots of fascinating learning opportunities for the adult volunteers, as well as for the children!

I am the coordinator of for Four Winds at Doty, and I’d be glad to answer any questions you might have. Please consider joining us, to offer this valuable learn-ing opportunity for our town’s children! Thanks!

With warm wishes for this new school year,

Dell Waterhouse (229-4886 or [email protected])

Fall Soccer is Coming!

Hello Parents/Students/Teachers/Staff!!

As your new Athletic Director, I wanted to introduce myself and start conversations about youth sports in our schools.

Born and raised in Montpelier, I stayed close to home and my coaching experience had me on the sidelines at Northfield High School for 15 years and the past 3 years at Spaulding High School. I also broadcast high school basketball for CVTSports.net alongside Carl Parton.

I’d like to have my volunteer soccer coaches by weeks end so we can sit down Saturday (September 3) to discuss the season. Please either email me at [email protected] or text me at 802-522-6300 to let me know if you are will-ing to volunteer, your contact information and what school/grade you are signing up for.

Keep your eyes open for the paperwork to register your student as that will be coming through shortly. I look forward to meeting you all and please do let me know of any ques-tions ~so excited for this journey with you all!!!

Best regards,

Lori Shepard
