DOCTRINE OF CONTAINMENT - Economic, Military and Diplomatic policy of USA after WW2 against the USSR. - Means ‘Covering the USSR’. - The aim is blocking the spreading of the USSR and the countries which are under the command of the USSR, and producing an anti-attack and protection power. - The productions of this doctrine are Truman Doctrine, NATO and CENTO (Middle East Treaty Organization -Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, and the United Kingdom-), Marshall Plan etc. After 1946 Russia had 3 directions for spreading itself; Middle East oil, Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean from Iran The Straits, Aegean Sea and Eastern Mediterranean from Turkey And again Eastern Mediterranean from Greece This 3 directions were really important for benefits of United Kingdom. This 3 directions were really important for benefits of United Kingdom. But after WW2 Britain was very weak for defending this areas against the USSR. According to United Kingdom there was just one country who can defeat USSR was USA, in all ower the world.

Britain wanted to give the responsibility to USA fo defending the lands of Turkey, Greece and Middle East. After that Containment Policy started, Truman, President of the USA, decided to take this responsibility and give the 400 million Dolar- military help to Turkey and Greece.
