D'LUXHOTEL
“D’Luxhotel”: un titolo un po’ misterioso per esprimere un punto di vista moderno sul concetto di lusso e di lussuoso;
“D’Luxhotel”: a mysterious title to express a view on what luxury and luxurious is today; it refers to a different but not eccentric statement sounding like “luxury the Gessi way”.As a company which is well known and admired wherever in the world the value of luxury is shared, Gessi stands as an international reference for the beauty, quality and technology of its products. This together with its visionary and rule breaking spirit all makes for a character of an ever creative and innovative leader. The philosophy of a company is always expressed in its actions, these actions identify the company itself, showing a universe of dreams, visions and achievements. The Hotel, a place which immediately evokes a journey, becomes the cue for telling a story about the world of luxury or rather “one” world of luxury. This is explained through the vision of a company whose products themselves create a luxurious atmosphere in the environment they furnish. It is a story and a vision that also comes to reality through the eyes, creations and feelings of the architects and designers working in partnership with Gessi.
The concept of modern day luxury considers the dimensions of time and space. D’Luxhotel shows how this concept comes to life in the most authentic way in the amount and quality of the time dedicated to oneself. It is found in spaces of one’s own where moments of indulgence are allowed, where it is possible to enjoy the beauty and intimacy or to simply relax and achieve a re-balance in a hectic world.D’Luxhotel proposes a unique interpretation of these “private spaces” that comes to be sought after in the world of the “seven star” rated hotels and Spas. The latter are intended as places where one’s personal needs, going beyond the mere functional aspect, are satisfied at a superior level and in a higher and “other” dimension. This far exceeds the normal and expected experience, becoming more related to the sensitivity rather than the sense sphere. The hotel becomes therefore a metaphor for an extra-ordinary place allowing the modern traveller to rediscover the delights to be found from an exclusive and pleasant place, the beautiful things, the excellence, the well being.“Luxury the Gessi way” is a world made of places, people and objects where the unique atmosphere and state of mind unfolds itself along a path of rooms and environments, a journey far above a normal experience.

Penso a quel luogo e a quel momento come
troppo, facilmente e frequentemente. In verità, pur viaggiando molto, raramente ho trovato
Esso fa piuttosto riferimento all’utilizzo sapiente
On interior design, we keep hearing far too often and easily the word luxury. Actually although I travel a lot, rarely have I found areas where you can perceive in a very clear way elegance, style and luxury.Today’s luxury does not need a gold plated... or Venician stucco decoration. It is rather the proper use of discreet but precious materials, of well planned lighting, of exclusive surfaces. It is in other words a concept of total harmony with the surrounding space. This can only be achieved with an extreme care of the project on every single detail. This is why the relationship with Italian firms of absolute quality like Gessi, is paramount to put into practice the vision of the designer.Around the world and often in those countries which claim facilities at the highest level, I found huge lobbies and swimming pools, recalling a stereotyped concept of luxury, but when you touch the fabric of a settee, the surface of marble or ceramic, the drawer of a kitchen or the door of a wardrobe, you can immediately perceive the poor quality of materials and the inappropriateness of the finishing touches.

Travel must fall into line with the strictest forms of research. Obviously there are other ways to get to know the world. But the traveller is slave to his own senses; his grip on a fact can be complete only when it is supported by the experience; he really gets to know the world only when he can see, feel, smell it.

What’s the object that best represents my view on luxury? A sailing boat! Though I don’t consider it under the aspect of a typically expensive object whose posses is expressive of material richness for the owner; I rather think about its function of a lively object. A sailing boat is indeed a beauty that calls for admiration but also a craft to be used and experienced; something whose pleasantness can be deeply understood only by those who possess a genuine passion for the sea and of course time to dedicate to this passion. Having time to live one’s own passion! Anything more luxurious?

As an architect, my approach to the issue of luxury goes through projects related to communal spaces and hotels rather than household and residential projects. On these projects the luxury of the areas is defined through specific characteristics given to the areas where people move, meet, and present themselves. The hotel is conceived like a “container”, open to the interpretation of its guest: the architecture does not stifle the human presence, but, it is its backdrop, leaving space to the hotel customer’s personal world and to people that, by offering the service, make the structure alive and give it a purpose. The design becomes indeed a means through which these settings and scenarios become open to every possible interpretation; the design object itself is no longer a status symbol for the sake of it, it rather becomes an object in harmony with its setting as a whole for the purpose of supporting personal wellness and comfort. The hotels settings I’m referring to, are designed for a discerning customer who is attentive to the quality of the environment and who bears sharp expectations on the service.

The parameters of luxury do change: opulence and ostentation are replaced by an increased awareness and a sense of selective simplicity, including an eye for wastefulness. What we are talking about is a new personal re-definition of luxury aimed to whomever is seeking an inner most idea of luxury, to unfold rather than to show-off; a luxury that unravels slowly and gradually in front of the careful observer. This new moderate luxury is no longer addressed solely to the so called v.i.p. clientele, but is aimed at an educated customer, closer to the luxury of an attitude than to the showing off of status symbol possessions. The hotels that I design, do present together extremely sophisticated surroundings with a picture of comfort, care and attention to even the smallest details; all this makes them a symbol of the new luxury. The projects on my practice outline the value of time rather than space per se; time which is the new true luxury of our frenzied life: controlling it, a person can then choose how to devote time to oneself and to those he cares for.

According to my view, luxury today is no longer expressed by mundane (and trivial) possessions, but by the possibility to live with experiences leading to emotions, to find again our soul and heart, to reestablish the lost balance with what’s around us. Industrialization, technology, urban sprawl have altered the vital spaces of men, making them more and more crowded and crumpled; moreover centuries-old biological cycles have been broken and substituted by artificial ones. Luxury today is to regain possession of space and time for oneself and for one’s soul. The new luxury is about experiencing situations and feeling sensations that help recovering the lost dimensions of silence and infinity. My idea of luxury obviously does not penalize technology and its great merits, it rather proposes and celebrates a new relationship between men and technology; a technology which has no negative impact on men; on the contrary it is used for their physical and mental well being. It is a similar story for architecture too, often these days, it is empty and self celebrating. It is important for architecture to recover a soul and a new capacity to create emotions.Just like technology, architecture can do a lot for the wellbeing and quality of life of mankind. This obviously involves a new way to conceive the design of living spaces. This latter should put the human element at the centre of the project, and its aim shouldn’t be to lay down extravagant and alien shapes, but to enable men to enjoy and benefit mentally and physically the architectonic layout of their environment.
benessere fisico e mentale.Un discorso analogo vale per l’architettura,
troppo spesso oggi vuota e autocelebrativa. È importante ridare all’architettura un’anima e

In a period when the accomplishment of one’s own ambitions seems to be harder than ever, luxury stands as managing to fulfill one’s own wishes. I dream of a nest-like small house immersed in the nature, which for me is always a source of inspiration and peace. I imagine it as a cozy nook calling back to a corresponding corner of my soul, where it becomes easy to perceive the exceptionality of a fleeting moment, and to expand it to the point that the moment becomes a delightful entire life.

fisicità, crescere e far crescere; significa ri-pensare, significa sognare, significa
ricominciare ad amare senza aspettarsi niente, significa dare senza ricevere.
I think the classic concept associated to the word “luxury” is surpassed by this day.Luxury today refers to the ability to appreciate small daily pleasures. This new type of luxury is more mental than physical, as it is made of freedom of movement, nakedness, emotions, dreams. As such, the new luxury does not spring from opulence; it’s rather bond to the habit breaking essentiality of spaces that can be continuously reinvented. In the field of architecture, luxury mirrors this new attitude: it is all about recovering the genuine beauties and intimate feelings that can be caught in the simplicity of everyday life. I’m talking about a new story to be told. While this story comes from the past, carrying a taste of far places, it is projected into a next future. In this future people would not strive to uniform, or emulate, but would seek their protecting cocoon in their uniqueness, finally managing to live and not to survive in a more and more alarming and soul-destroying society. I’m talking about “non-places” and natural habitats where every man can let out his own deeper personality, recovering the real contact with himself and with nature. My design of communal places aims at placing man and his senses to the center, stimulating him with shapes, images, colors, lights, materials, which all come to be set in a dialectic between abstraction and pragmatism, dream and reality. I imagine this spaces as part of a world, in which the man represents a fourth dimension to be studied for granting him a daily satisfaction. Every element of this world should be thought in order to ideally return to the origins of time, when all was pure and simple. Living in a luxurious world today, means to succeed in those simple actions that have become unusual, like giving true love and being loved in return, contemplating the beauty of nature, giving without expecting to receive, regaining possession of the truth of life; it means to think again, to dream.

indifferentemente a Hong Kong o a Berlino.
rileggendone in modo attuale e contemporaneo colori, materiali e tradizioni.
ETTOREMOCCHETTI
The concept of luxury is currently being re-defined; it comes to be more and more interpreted as “high quality”. Luxury no longer corresponds to pretentious display, it rather refers to the “art of living”; it’s all about the pleasure of possessing unique, well made, emotion arousing objects or about to have free time to dedicate to the pampering of one’s body and soul.In the hotel and wellness world the term luxury refers to a supreme quality of the place, the service and the interior design. Nowadays globalization leads to a standardization in the interior designing, with the consequence that several hotel rooms could be indifferently situated in cities as far and diverse as Hong Kong and Berlin. It happens very often that the hotels environments do not bear anything calling back to the characteristic of the place and to the culture of the land where the hotels are built. While a professional level of accommodation and service should be taken for granted, the designer should also interpret the expectations of the guests towards the typical aspects of the place they intend to visit. As a consequence, before laying down the interior design, the architect should make an historical and architectural reading of the environment so that the project added value can be indeed a contemporary rendering of the atmospheres of the land, in term of its colors, materials and traditions.

Luxury is as glamorous as a hidden but very elegant detail or a private and personal pleasure as golden sticks for the shirt collar could be.As an architecture Studio, our design of hotel environments, from the Hotel Ritz in Paris, to the Principe di Savoia in Milan, to the Excelsior or the Exedra Palace in Rome, is mostly inspired by a classical concept of ornate, refined, opulent and charming luxury. Our style explicitly calls back to the splendour and undying grace of past epochs; yet the stylistic elements of those epochs are rearranged with elegance and a touch of freshness by placing them in airy wide spaces. In quotes, luxury is: “service, space, beauty”.

lusso è eccellenza, seduzione, selezione, elezione, eleganza.
My interpretation of the concept of luxury opposes to the mainstream system of values attributed to this word, which usually relies upon quantity and lush opulence. In my view, luxury is rather bond to the values of quality; in other words it is expressed by such words as excellence, seduction, selection, election, elegance. In the world of interior designing, luxury means quality and relation with the overall environment. I mean that design must provide a modern interpretation of the typical style of a place while preserving its unique taste. Keeping this in mind prevents the projects to be worthless copycats of each other and allows every building to preserve a uniqueness of its own as the authenticity of the design is provided by the typicality of the place where the project is realized.

Luxury objects are one’s own beloved small things, those whose worth is given by the value of dear memories attached to them, such as one’s own collections, photos, drawings.
