NCA&T Tuition and Fees 2015-16 & 2016-17

The universities were asked to review and propose tuition and

fee increases for the next two years.

The NCA&T tuition and fee committee began discussions and

review in early September and concluded in late October.

Recommendations for tuition, required fees and several

miscellaneous fees were reviewed and approved.

With the final recommendation, NCA&T remains below both its

UNC and national peers in total cost of attendance.

The recommended increase for required fees is $100.00 for 2015-16

and 2016-17. This is in addition to the previously approved debt service

increase of $100.00 per year for the next two years. The breakdown

of the fees is as follows:

Athletics, Fee Increase $60 (2015-16) and $25 (2016-17)

Justification: continue to increase academic support of student athletes, which

would improve overall APR. In addition to student fees, additional funding

opportunities are being sought including increased sponsorships, gate receipts,

alumni donations and game guarantees. Additional funding insures that Athletics

moves from operating in a deficit as they cannot receive other sources of funds

(primarily appropriations) as mandated by the state of North Carolina.

Student Activities, Fee Increase $25 (2015-16) and $60 (2016-17)

Justification: The increase will be used to support the Memorial Union in 2015-

16. Funding will support increased costs of using additional spaces on campus for

activities that were previously held in the Union. With the 2016-17 increase,

funding will be used to support expanded student activities and student

programming.

Health Service, Fee Increase $15 (2015-16 & 2016-17)

Justification: The increase will support the new Health Center scheduled for a

November 2014 opening. It will expand the laboratory diagnostic services, support

a women’s health center, support lab hours to 9:00 p.m. and create immunization,

counseling and substance abuse areas. It will also support expanding our psychiatry

services.

Debt Service, Fee Increase $100+

Justification: We are now in year 3 of a multiyear increase previously approved to start

during the current academic year. The first year (2013-14) increase was $50.00, the

second year (2014-15) is $100.00, year three (2015-16) an additional $100.00 and the

final year (2016-17) an additional $150.00. The multiyear approach was approved

during the 2013-14 fee process and is given as information for the current year’s

submission. The overall increase over the course of four years will be between $400-

450. By staggering the increase, it reduces the burden on students who will likely not be

around for the new building completion.

Housing, Fee Increase $100 (2015-16 & 2016-17)

Justification: Primarily to install an elevator in Haley Hall as well as continued

maintenance of the residential facilities. As a note, the University is exploring the possibility

of purchasing apartment and housing units located near the campus that Housing and

Residence Life would manage. This would allow the University to provide more housing

options as well as provide the same level of security used for current on-campus units.

Dining, Fee Increase $125 (2015-16) $200 (2016-17)

Justification: This fee increase would support additional enhancements to Williams

Dining Hall. Beginning in Fall 2015, selections including the Fresh Market (like Panera

Bread), a Specialty Bar (which will have different selections weekly/monthly) and

expanding the Daily Grill Options to include items such as steak and cheese subs, and Philly

chicken subs in lieu of the standard hamburger and hot dogs. The fee increase will also

provide student meal plans with an additional $50.00 in flex dollars.

NCA&T Tuition and Fees FY 2015-16 & 2016-17 Campus Based Tuition – MBA Program

Campus based tuition for the MBA program only will increase by $1,000.00 for the next two years.

Resident $1,000.00

Non-Resident $1,000.00

The revenue generated from MBA students will be used to establish an office to support this new

major. Funding will be used to hire a dedicated director as well as pay for marketing materials and

faculty support for this professional graduate program. The increase in tuition still leaves us well

below our peer institutions that currently offer MBA programs. As a professional degree program,

the MBA commands, nationwide, a higher tuition rate than general graduate programs.

Currently our peer institutions charge the following for their MBA programs:

ECU UNC-C UNC-G

Resident $6,473.00 $9,508.00 $9,201.00

Non-Resident $18,790.00 $21,295.00 $22,650.00

NCA&T Tuition and Fees FY 2015-16 & 2016-17 Campus Based Tuition – JMSW Program

NCA&T and UNC-G administer a Joint Masters of Social Work program. Both universities have been

engaged in a discussion to have matching tuition and fees so that students enrolled in the program pay the

same regardless of the enrolling institution. While additional program details will be worked out, the plan

would be to have all students pay the higher tuition rate. NCA&T’s graduate tuition rate for JMSW will be

the same as UNC-G.

Students will have access to activities and services regardless of campus.

NCA&T Tuition and Fees FY 2015-16

Miscellaneous Fees

Student Praxis I Exam Fee ($135.00)

Justification: This fee will cover the cost of the Praxis exam required of all teacher

education majors. By creating the fee, it becomes a part of the cost of attendance and not

an out of pocket expense.

NARS-LDAR Field Experience Fee ($350.00)

Justification: This fee will support the cost of the field experience currently assessed to

students out of pocket once they enroll in the class. Again, by creating the fee, it becomes

a part of the cost of attendance and not an out of pocket expense. This fee is only assessed

in the semester that the student enrolls in the field experience.

NCA&T Tuition and Fees FY 2015-16

Miscellaneous Fees (cont.)

Animal Science Fee ($60.00)

Justification: This annual fee will cover the cost of the Animal Science labs which

utilize a lot of one-time use and disposable goods. With the current requirements of the

academic labs, it is imperative that supplies and equipment remain current so that

students are exposed to the most relevant and real life situations as possible.

Graphics Communication Fee ($50.00)

Justification: This annual fee will support the cost of changing and expanding

technologies needed for lab experiences. Supplies and equipment including 3-D

printing, virtual computing and devices that handle same are all necessary in order that

the most up to date technologies be studied in the various labs.

Miscellaneous Fees - Parking Services

There will be an increase to deck parking for 2015-16. General deck parking will increase by

$83.00 annually. There will also be a new category called ‘Park & Ride’. Park and Ride vehicle

registration will be a reduced parking rate for those who park in satellite lots and utilize the

shuttle to ‘ride onto’ campus.

NCA&T Tuition and Fees FY 2015-16 General Administration Campus Safety Fee

27

As a note, General Administration is reviewing whether or not they will

implement a campus safety fee for all campuses in the amount of

$50.00. This fee would be used to implement necessary safety

initiatives on each of the 16 campuses. As of now this is a proposal – we

will keep all students updated if this fee is approved.
