District Level Annual Stakeholder Consultation-cum Dissemination Meeting

A District Level Annual Stakeholder-cum-Dissemination Meeting on Enhancing
Financial Protection of Consumers in Particular Women through Financial Literacy
Initiatives, with the support of Consumer Welfare Fund, Department of Consumer
Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India
was held at Bhilwara Rajasthan on November 25, 2019.

Mahmood, Assistant Director, CUTS Centre for Human Development; and Dharmendra
Chaturvedi, Programme Officer participated.
The meeting commenced with the welcome speech of Mahmood who provided an
overview of the project goal and objectives.
Saxena spoke about the Charter of Customer’s Rights of RBI as a Depositor. He shared
that a total of 3626 participants participated in all 48 block and cluster-level trainings in
Bhilwara district. Women benefited from financial schemes, such as Pradhan Mantri
Suraksha Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana,
Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Jan-Dhan account. Due to the low level of financial
literacy, consumers are not able to judge and compare various financial products and
schemes.
Gaurav Chaturvedi, Programme Assistant, CUTS CHD highlighted the outcome of the
project through a presentation. He said that there is a need to develop a robust financial
structure by enhancing coordination among stakeholders. In the year 2019, the third
phase (block level) and 12 fourth phase cluster level (sub-block level) trainings were
conducted. A total of 24 trainings were held during the year 2019. 1020 participants
including women, men and guests participated in 12 third phase trainings. 1021
participants including women, men and guests participated in 12 fourth phase trainings.
A total of 2041 participants participated in all 24 block and cluster level trainings. A total
of 144 periodic meetings were accomplished during February-November 2019 in 12
blocks and clusters each and 2335 participants attended periodic meetings.
Lokesh Saini DDM NABARD stated that the CUTS team done well in this project and
achieved successful outcomes. Women came forward to take advantage of banking
services, such as Social Security Scheme, Insurance, Pension or Financial Welfare
Schemes. Financial literacy is a means to bring about greater financial capability towards
financial inclusion. NABARD conduct financial inclusion drive through regional rural
banks (RRBs)/cooperatives/non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and sensitise the
staff of RRBs and
cooperatives on financial
inclusion in a focussed
manner.

Rural women were
unable to come out of
poverty due to poor
savings and investment habits due to unawareness of financial schemes of banks and the
Central Government. And today, as per statistics, they actively participated in these
trainings and benefited from such financial schemes.
OP Somani, FLC, Bank of Baroda, (Lead Office) Bhilwara thanked CUTS for effectively
implementing the project. He said that women have an important contribution to adding
family income and livelihood activities. These women group leaders have been trained and
will be involved in networking with various banks, financial institutions, and government
departments.
Women group leaders from various blocks of Bhilwara district shared their experiences
and learnings. Nirmala Purohit, Programme Assistant, CUTS CHD gave a vote of thanks to
all dignitaries and requested participants to provide feedback, if any, about the project.
More than 88 participants attended the event, including 73 women.
