Good Dkhwashing Sta~ with HOT WaterTo get dishes clean and dry, you need hot water. For good washing and drying, the entering water must beat least 120°F. To prevent dish damage, iflet water shodd not exceed 150°F.

How to Test Water TemperatureCheck your water temperature with a candy or meat Helpfilhink: Eoutside temperatures are unusually .thermometer. Turn on the hot water faucet nearest low, or if your water travels a long distance from waterthe dishwasher. Put the thermometer in a glass and heater to dishwasher, you may need to set your waterlet the water run continuously into the glass until the heater’s thermostat up. If you have not used hot watertemperature stops rising. If the water temperature is for some time, the water in the pipes will be cold. Turnbelow 120°F., adjust your water heater. on the hot water faucet at the sink and allow it to run

until tie water is hot. Then start the dishwasher. Ifyou’ve recentiy done laundry or run hot water forshowers, give your water heater time to recover beforeoperating the dishwasher.

To improve washability if the water is less than120°F. and you cannot adjust your water heater:Select a longer cycle and fill both detergent cupsat least half-full with detergent.

How to Use a Wse AgentThe rinse agent makes water flow off dishesquicker than usual. This lessens water spottingand makes drying faster, too.

For best dishwashing performance, use of a rinseagent such as ET-DRY brand is recommended.

Rinse agents come in either liquid or solid form.Your dishwasher uses the liquid form.

How to fill the rinse agent dispenser:Unscrew the cap.Add tiquid rinseagent until it justreaches the bottom of

Q)-. :

lip inside the dispenser ~1opening. Replace cap.The dispenser

&d

automatically releasesrinse agent into findrinse water.

Your dishwasher’s rinse agent container holdsapproximately 4~z ounces. This should last about3 months. Fill as needed.

H you accidentiy spill: Wipe up the rinseagent with a damp cloth. Don’t leave the spill in thedishwasher. It can keep your detergent from working.U you can’t find any rinse agent write:BENC~SER CONSUMER PRODUCTS, ~C.(“ET-DRY”)Corporate Centre 155 Federd RoadP.O. Box 1991Danbury, CT 06813-1991

You may check to see if you need to add rinse agentby removing the fill cap and looking into thecontainer. You may dso check the rinse agent, onsome models, by pressing the clear center of the fdlcap 2 or 3 times. If rinse agent is drawn into the centerof the fill cap, you have enough. If the center arearemains clear add rinse agent.

How to Choose and Use the Mght DetergentUse ody powder or tiqtid detergent S-MYmade for use ti dishwashers. Other_* causeoversudsing. How much de~rgent shotid you use? That depends. Is your water “hard” or “soft”? Whh hard water, youneed extra detergent to get dishes clean. Whh soft water, you need less detergent.Your water department a teu you how hard yourwater is. So can your county extension agent or yourarea’s water softener company. Just cd and ask themhow many “grains” of hardness there are in your water.Too much detergent with soft water not ordy wastesmoney, it can be ~. It can cause a permanent

cloutiess of glassware, c~ed “etching.” An outsidelayer of @ass is etchd away! Of course, this takes sometime. But why take a chance when it’s my to find out thehardness of your water.Keep your detergent fmh and dry. Under tie sinkisn’t a good place to store detergent because there is toomuch moisture. Don’t put powder detergent into thedispenser untiyou’reready to wash dishes, either. (Itwon’t be fresh OR dry.)Kyour powder detergent gets old or Impy, throw itaway. Old detergent often won’t dissolve. E you use aliquid dishwasher detergent, these precautions are notnecessary because liquid detergents don’t “lump” asthey age or come in contict with moisture.

How to Prepare the Dishes for WashingIf this is your fwst dishwasher, or if you’re NOTE: You may dso want to consider removingreplacing a much older model, you may wonder foods such as mustard, mayonnaise, vinegar, lemonhow much preparation your dishes need. Actually juice and otier foods that can cause discoloration ofvery little. Scrape off bones, seeds, skins, toothpicks stainless steel if allowed to remain on dishes for a longmd other hard solids. Remove excessive qumtities period of time.of oil or grease. The POTSCR~BER cycle can wash heavily--

soiled dishes and remove dried-on and bked-onsoils from pots, pans and casseroles. Items withburned-on soils need extra preparation. 9

HOW TO LOAD YO~ DIS~AS~R

NOTE: Do not load large platters or trays in front right comerof lower rack. They may prevent detergent from circulating in the wash cycle.

The upper rack is best for glasses, cups andsaucers. Cups and glasses fit best along the sides. This is also the place for dishwasher-safe plastics.Make sure small plastic items are lodged in tightly sothey can’t fdl onto the heating unit. hange stemwareso that it cannot move easily. Don’t let the glassestouch each other.

The upper rack is handy for all kinds of odd shapes. Sauce pans, mixing bowls and other items should be placedface down. men loading dishwasher safe plastics make sure each plastic item is secured over two fingers. Thiswill insure good washing results.

e.,

The lower rack is best used for plates, saucers, andcookware. Large items such as broiler pans and racksshould go in the lower rack along the edge. Loadplatters, pots and bowls along the sides, in comers,or in the back. For best washing results, all itemsshould be positioned with the soiled side of the dishfacing the center of the rack.

Put flatware in the removable basket with handles upto protect your hands. Mix knives, forks and spoonsso they don’t nest together. Distribute evenly.Small plastic items, such as measuring spoons andlids from small containers are not recommended forautomatic dishwashing. If placed in dishwasher, theyshould go in bottom of silverware basket withsilverware on top.

Keep center area clear in the lower rack. The wash tower rises through the center of the lowerrack during the wash and rinse portions of the cycle.Don’t block it or load tall things next to it. Also, becareful not to let a portion of an item such as a pot ordish hadle extend-through the bottom rack. This couldblock the wash arm and cause poor washing results.

Precaution!

Take out anything that may fall or extend through thebottom of the basket.
