Disabled Access

As you turn in off the old A35 the Car Park is directly alongside the entrance to your left. There is a glass entrance canopy for dropping off which leads into the restaurant. To your left are the toilets including one cubicle adapted for disabled use. There is level access to the restaurant, shop and reception area. The House is 50 yards from the Coach House and access is via a ramped 5” step after which the ground floor can be viewed - The Great Hall, Screens Passage, Ante Room, Great Chamber, Dining Room, and Servants Passage. The first floor is accessible by stairs only. The floors are mostly stone with some wood boarding in places. The doorways are all above standard width of 33 inches. The Gardens can be seen, providing wheelchairs can negotiate hard standing gravel paths a 4” step and a number of grassed stretches. Larger wheeled chairs with a helper are preferable. At some points there are flights of steps, which are not negotiable, but these can be avoided by taking alternative routes. We do have a map (below) available for disabled visitors, suggesting a suitable route around the grounds. If you are considering bringing any disabled visitors to Athelhampton, or are in any doubt we would recommend that you do a feasibility visit. This will be charged for at the normal rates of admission. Your second visit will then be free when you bring a disabled person. Please ask at the admission desk on your first visit and the relevant tickets will be issued. The admission cost for a disabled visitor is £6.25.
