LEARN THE FACTS NOT THE MYTHS!
At the Hastings Beautification Project,
we’ve had some successes over the
past month or so, with the addition
of some new faces allowing us to
tackle some larger tasks and to make
deep inroads into the older ones.
The team have had significant success creating pathways through
the bush, as well as clearing non-native trees and forming small
clearings. We’ve also cleared areas around the complex, as some
positions were traps for leaves and for fallen branches, creating a
fire hazard and altogether not looking great. We also dug out a
trench and some pools to form a natural channel for excess water
to run down into the bush, and providing that we have some rain
soon we should be able to develop that area into a wetlands
environment, and try to cultivate some habitats for frogs and
birds. Along the back of the building, we’ve also created some
built in seats, which required planning, the cutting of the wood as
well as the installation and the sanding off of the seats, which
shall hopefully see use as the weather improves.
The front of the building has been coming along nicely, with
bushes being replanted and growing to the extent that they
needed to be pruned down, and are looking terrific now. The
rose gardens at the front of the complex aren’t flowering at the
moment, but they are in great condition under the care we’ve
provided them, and we’re optimistic of a good season to come.
The upgrade of the Mural at the front of the building is
progressing, but the weather has been inclement at times, which
has slowed progress, but the project is marching on and it’s very
promising to see the way it is developing, as we move through
the winter months. We are very eager to see the result, as it
already looks
fantastic!

Our VCAL students have been very busy this past
term with lots of events and activities around the
Hub. The students have been running their own
small businesses with their $20 Boss Projects. We
had students selling cupcakes, sausages and even
running a car wash in the car park! Great work guys,
we received lots of fantastic feedback from our visi-
tors. VCAL also hosted a Biggest Morning Tea which
was a great success raising $157.00. The group has
also visited: ArtVo, clothes4U and been on camp this
term. We look forward to seeing what great things
the students get up to in term III.
