A new Base Transceiver Station (BTS) type called Flexi WCDMA BTS has been available since RAS05.1. Flexi WidebandCode Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) BTS is a new, truly modular, very compact, and high capacity wide-area WCDMABTS that can be used in various indoor and outdoor installation options (such as floor, wall, stand, pole, mast, cabinet, 19" rack)and site applications (mini, macro, and distributed site solution).

This solution can also be used as a multimode upgrade to existing UltraSite EDGE BTS with WCDMA carriers.

Flexi WCDMA BTS consists of the following self-supporting BTS modules:

Radio Module: provides the Radio Frequency (RF) functionality. In maximum 3 RF Modules can be connected to BasicSystem Module.

System Module: provides BaseBand processing as well as control and transmission functionality. System Modulecapacity depends on system module type, for details see Flexi WCDMA BTS capacity. The number of CEs activatedcan be increased by license control.

BaseBand Extension Module: in cases where two system modules in one BTS Flexi System Extension Kit cable set(FSKA) are required.

Flexi Rel1 System Module (FSMB) has three submodules, each containing a capacity of 80 CE as described in the followingfigure:

Flexi Rel2 Multimode System Module FSME has three submodules and 612CE capacity for traffic use (FSME System Modulestructure).

Flexi WCDMA BTS capacity

There are four types of RF Modules:

Release1 Single RF Module (50W – FRxB, FRGD, FRGK, FRGM – supporting one sector)

Release1 Dual RF Module ( 50W – FRxA, FRGC, FRGJ, FRGL – supporting one or two sectors)

Release2 Triple RF Module (70W - FRGF – supporting one, two or three sectors)

Release2 RRH Module (70W - FRGG)

Flexi WCDMA BTS provides 12-carrier capacity. Up to six sectors two carriers and up to three sectors and four carriers perconfiguration are supported by the hardware. The output power options min 8/15/20/30/40W or 60W (depending on the RFmodule) are available.

For more specific information related to RU10 supported configurations, see the Cabling the Flexi WCDMA BTS and CreatingConfigurations and Commissioning Flexi WCDMA BTS documents.

In RU10 (WBTS5.0) three new Flexi Multimode BTS System Modules (FSMC, FSMD, and FSME) are introduced. Theircapacity for 3 * 20 km cells or 6*10 km cells is as follows:

FSMC - 180 CE for traffic use

FSMD - 396 CE for traffic use

FSME – 612 CE for traffic use – coming after RU10

CEs for Common Control Channels for 3 * 20km cells or 6*10km cells per system module are included into module.

Rel1 HW System Module FSMB is also available in the RU10 release with the same capacity as in RAS06 (240CE). Dependingon the cell number, the following number of CEs is needed for CCCH:

1 - 3 cells – 26CE

4 - 6 cells – 52 CE

7 - 9 cells – 78 CE

10 - 12 cells – 104 CE

In cases where a higher CE capacity is required, it is possible to have another Flexi WCDMA BTS System Module as anextension in one Flexi BTS.

In RU10 Rel2 HW system modules (FSMC, FSMD, and FSME) can be offered as capacity extension for Rel1 HW SystemM d l (FSMB)

Starting from RU10, the following maximum CE capacities are available for traffic use with 2 System Modules in one BTS:

FSMB + FSMC: max. Site capacity 420 CE (= 240 CE + 180 CE) minus CE for CCC

FSMB + FSMD: max. Site capacity 636 CE (= 240 CE + 396 CE) minus CE for CCCH

FSMB + FSME: max. Site capacity 852 CE (= 240 CE + 612 CE) minus CE for CCCH

FSMC + FSMC: max. Site capacity 360 CE (= 180 CE + 180 CE).

FSMC + FSMD: max. Site capacity 576 CE (= 180 CE + 396 CE).

FSMD + FSMD: max. Site capacity 792 CE (= 396 CE + 396 CE).

FSMC + FSME: max. Site capacity 792 CE (= 180 CE + 612 CE)

FSMD + FSME: max. Site capacity 1008 CE (= 396 CE + 612 CE)

FSME + FSME: max. Site capacity 1224 CE (= 612 CE + 612 CE)

Rel1 System Module (FSMB) cannot be used as capacity expansion of Rel2 System Modules (FSMC, FSMD, and FSME).

The software uses the whole CE capacity (from the basic and extension System Modules) up to the licence capacity. There isno need to dedicate any CEs to basic System Module and Extension Module.
