Album Cover

The album cover suggests what type of music will be on the album , as Rhianna is subverting the stereotypical female conventions by smoking which is very common of R&B artists . The camera here is personified as a male’s eyes because Rihanna’smouth is open and exposing some of her skin. This sexualisesher image and the eye contact suggest confidence within the star.

Photos

This photo-shoot promotes Rihanna’s image which is what attracts audience more than music. It could be said for these images to create a distraction for audiences to buy the album. These photos give a sense to the audience of what she can offer and shows off her personality. Rihanna has no performance pictures on this album , its populated with images that sexualise her and almost see her as a model rather than an artist. The settings of these photos illustrate most of the songs as the lyrics are quite provocative.

Album Cover

. The album cover suggests that the

album is different and unique, this is

mainly because Christina’s face has

been divided into two , one side is

her normal face and the other half

seems to look like the inside of a

robot. This album cover also has

intertextuality references to the film

Metropolis which a lot of artists such

as Beyoncé , Janelle Monae and

others have gain ideas from.

CD Disc

The CD disc is a cartoon drawing of Christina’s lips which is very close up , which suggests the male gaze . Furthermore, on the right side of the lips its seems to look as if she is kissing the album as there is a smudge as if she is kissing the person with the CD.

Photos

The photos that are featured on the album are highly sexualised, they have been taken through the view of the male gaze. This is done so that she can appeal to her male audience. Furthermore, it could also suggest that some on the songs featured on the album may be very explicit due to her costumes and posture.

Album Cover

The album cover is a close up image of Beyoncé, she seems to be wearing a swimsuit as the back ground of the image is on a beach . This album cover is very different to her others in the past as she is wearing less make up and seems less sexualised in the image.

CD Disc

In this album there are two CD’s one is the song album and the other is the bonus feature album. On the first CD there is an image of Beyoncé wearing a dress with a long scarf around here back here she almost looks angelic , this could be a cross reference to some of the songs on her album for example “Halo”. Moreover , the second CD is more extravagant as she more sexualised . This could be showing her two personalities.

Here we see the white and black contrast

repeated giving a more appealing look for the

male gaze. The black clothes create a stand

out effect and attract attention to her body.

Also the theory of 'the male gaze' has been

used as here Beyonce is shown as a object

for males to gain pleasure. album are very

seductive,
