Brandy is merely distilled wine. Specialty brandiessuch as Cognac and Armagnac are made in specificgeographic regions and of certain wines to becalled such by French Law. Brandy (from brandywine, derived from Dutch brandewijn, burntwine)[1] is a spirit produced by distilling wine. Brandy generally contains 3560% alcohol byvolume (70120 US proof) and is typically taken as an after-dinner drink. Some brandies are agedin wooden casks, some are coloured with caramel colouring to imitate the effect of aging, and some

brandies are produced using a combination of both aging and colouring.Brandy is also produced from fermented fruits other than grapes, but these products are typicallynamed eaux-de-vie, especially in France.

In some countries, fruit flavouring or some other flavouring may be added to a spirit that is calledbrandy.E.G Hennessy

Rum is made from sugar cane and its byproducts(molasses) and is prey simple. Fermented canejuice or molasses or combinations of each are thendistilledsometimes multiple times. Light rum isnot aged, or aged very shortly. It has the leastflavor and is good for mixed drinks. Darker rum has

been aged, sometimes with flavors or spices and issuited for some mixed drinks, but the older it is, themore suited for sipping it becomessimilar to fine

    brandies or whiskies.

    VODKA

Vodka isnt exclusively from potatoes. In fact, itsincreasingly rare that it is made from potatoes inthat they are more expensive as an ingredient forthe whole distilling cycle. Youll find that mostvodkas are distilled from grainthe same as

whiskey, but more and more thoroughly so thatthere is minimal/no flavor left in the distillate. Itsalso not aged or barreled and therefore remainscrystal clear and colorless.Actually all brown spirits (whiskey, brandy, rum)derive the majority of their color and flavor fromthe wooden casks that they are aged in. When

distilled, they allyes, *ALL* come out crystal clearand colorless. Caramel color may be added in thecheaper varieties, and dark rums will frequentlyhave molasses added back for a richer flavor(which is not necessarily characteristic of thecheaper varieties).E.G Grey goose

Gin is neutral spirits (like vodka) which arefl

avoredvia various methods with primarly juniper berriesand also other botanicals.Ouzo, Pernod, and Absinthe belong to a group ofspirits called Pastis (I forget the meaning exactly). These are all primarily flavored with anise andliquorice and when water is added, the oils from theinfused botanicals un-dissolve and turn the drinkmilky. Absinthe is unique in that it contanisewormwood as one of its botanicals. Wormwoodcontains thujone which is a controversial substance

which renders it illegal in a majority of countries. Itis said to make the drinker hallucinateoften calledseeing the green fairie as Absinthe is coloredgreen. The truth is that Absinthe is *extremely*alcoholic relative to other spirits (65% alcohol andup) and is traditionally drunk with water pouredthrough a sugar cube (lighting the sugar cube onfire is optional) which reduces the strength fordrinking.E.G Iceberg London dry gin
