Commercial Vehicle
• A mechanic that works on semi’s, heavy duty pickup trucks, or anything that is street legal with a diesel
engine for its power plant.
Marine• A mechanic that works on diesel
engines in the marine field.
DutiesCommercial Vehicle
• To fix problems that occur on commercial vehicles that will make it perform at its peak performance and efficiency.
Marine
• To fix problems that are occurring on a vessel, that will make it perform at its peak performance and efficiency.
Working Conditions
Commercial Vehicle• Generally, are in a shop
where all of the mechanic’s tools are to perform the task.
Marine• Can either be at a shop or
out on a job site where the broke down piece of equipment is.

Commercial Vehicle
• Trade school to get your certifications (ASE, Brakes, Suspension, Drivelines, etc.).
Marine
• Trade school to get certifications for types of divisions in marine diesel, such as propellers, turbochargers, exhaust ventilation underwater, etc.

These two fields do have differences between each other because they do work on different types of diesel engines, they have different wages, different benefits, different work environment, and different work aspect.
Which career do I prefer?
• I prefer the Commercial Vehicle Diesel Technology. I prefer this type because I would like to stay close to my future home, I do not like to swim, and I do enjoy working on trucks rather than boats. I am also accepted into the Commercial Diesel Technology program at UNOH.
