    This is the treasury of the heart practice

    of [Karma] Chagme [Rinpoche].Considering how great the benet wouldbe for many beings, I make the effort towrite, although my hand is sick. In thecase that someone wishes to copy (studyand practise) this text and does not haveit himself, please lend it to him. Nothinghas greater benet. There is no dharmateaching more profound than this.     the wheels on his feet, and so on, the 32

    signs of perfection and the 80 minormarks. He has a single face, two arms, inthe mudra of equanimity, holding an almsbowl. He wears the three dharma robes.

    In crossed posture, he is seated on anlotus of a thousand petals with a moondisc from which rises a bodhi tree thatserves as a back rest. From far away, helooks at me with his eyes of compassion.

    On his right is the BodhisattvaEyes of Compassionate Wisdom(Avalokiteshvara), of white colour,holding in his left hand a white lotus;

    and on his left is the Bodhisattva ofGreat Power (Vajrapani), of blue colour,holding in his left hand a lotus markedwith a vajra. Both of them extend their

    right hands towards us in the refuge

    bestowing mudra.These three main deities appear likeMount Meru, the king of mountains.Radiant, pouring forth splendour and

    illuminating, they dwell accompaniedby their retinue of a trillion gelongbodhisattvas, all of them also of goldencolour, adorned with the marks and signs,dressed in the three dharma robes, of

    great resplendence.

    With a devotion that does not makeany difference between near and far, Iprostrate full of respect with my three

    doors.

    The Dharmakaya Limitless Radiance,Lord of the buddha family, emanatesfrom his right hand light rays that

    become Chenrezi, one billion secondary

    emanations of the mighty Chenrezi . Fromhis left hand he emanates light rays thatbecome Tara with one billion secondaryemanations of Tara. From his heart lightrays go out manifesting Padmasambhava

    together with one billion secondaryemanations of Orgyen. I prostrate toDharmakaya Measureless Light.

    With the eyes of a buddha, during all six

    periods of the day and night he constantlyregards with love all sentient beings.His enlightened mind is constantlyaware of whatever thoughts or ideasarise in the mind of all sentient beings.

    His enlightened ear constantly hearsdistinctly, without confusion, whateverwords are spoken by all sentient beings. Iprostrate to the all-knowing MeasurelessLight.

    Except for those who have rejected the

    dharma, or accomplished the deeds ofimmediate retribution, all who have faithin You and make their wishing prayerswill be born in Dewachen and theirprayers will be fullled. It is said that in

    the bardo, he will come and will guideus into this land. I prostrate to the guideMeasureless Light.

    Your life span lasting for countless kalpas

    you stay here and do not go beyondsuffering. If we pray to you with onepointed respect, it is said that except forthe complete ripening of karma the end

    of our life force will happen only after onehundred years and the various kinds ofuntimely death will be averted. I prostrateto protector Amitayus.

    It is said that it is of greater merit to join

    the palms out of faith on hearing the nameof Amitabha and about Dewachen than toll countless three thousandfold universesof vast extent with jewels and to offer themas gifts. For this reason I respectfully

    prostate to Measureless Light.

    Whosoever hears the name of Amitabhaand develops just once a faith, whichcomes from the depth of his heart and

    bones and is not empty talk, will neverloose the path to enlightenment. Iprostrate to the protector MeasurelessLight.

    From the time of hearing the nameof Buddha Measureless Light untilobtaining buddhahood I will not be bornin an inferior body, but take birth in a

    good family and have a pure conduct in all

    lives to come. I prostrate to MeasurelessLight gone to bliss.

    My body and all my possessions, togetherwith my roots of virtue, whatever offerings

    that are actually present or emanatedby mind including the auspicioussubstances, the eight auspicious signs,the seven precious items whateverofferings exist since all times: billions of

    three thousandfold universes with theirfour continents, the central mountain,the sun and the moon together with allthe wealth of gods, nagas and humans

    I take them up in my mind and offerthem to Amitabha. By the force of yourcompassion, accept this for my ownbenet.

    I lay open and confess all the non-virtuous

    deeds which have been committed frombeginningless time until now by myselfand by all sentient beings headed by myfather and mother.

    I lay open and confess the threeunwholesome acts of the body: killing,taking what is not given, and impureconduct. I lay open and confess the fourunwholesome acts of the speech: lying,

    slandering, rough speech, and gossip.I lay open and confess the threeunwholesome acts of mind: covetousness,malice, and wrong views.

    I lay open and confess the ve deedsof immediate retribution which weaccumulated: killing our father, ourmother, our teacher, or an arhat, and

    intending to cause harm to the body of a

    Victorious One.I lay open and confess the evil deedssimilar to the deeds of immediateretribution: killing a gelong or a getsul,

    making a nun fall , destroying a statue,stupa or temple, and so on.

    I lay open and confess the evil acts ofabandoning the dharma, like abandoning

    the three supports etc., the Jewels, thetemple, and the supreme Speech.

    I lay open and confess all theseaccumulated very negative, useless

    actions like abusing bodhisattvas whichis of greater evil than to kill the sentientbeings of the three realms.

    Compared to the ve crimes of immediate

    retribution it is more negative not to

    believe in the benets of virtuous deedsand the difculties resulting from non-virtue and to think that this is not trueand simply a pedagogical device, and thisalthough we received explanations on the

    duration and extent of suffering in the hellrealms, and so on. I lay open and confessthis negative karma that makes liberationimpossible.

    I lay open and confess all breakage anddamages of the discipline of individualliberation including the ve categories offaults: the four root downfalls, the thirteen

    with a remainder, the transgressions ,the downfalls, the individually confesseddamages, and the faults.

    gressions concerning the bodhisattva

    training: the four negative actions, theve, ve and eight downfalls.

    I lay open and confess the samayadamages of the secret mantra: the 14 root

    downfalls and the transgressions of theeight secondary vows.

    I lay open and confess all harmful deedswhich I did not understand to be harmful:

    the non-virtuous deeds that I havecommitted due to not requesting vowsand all evil deeds of which I was not awareof as actually being harmful, like impureconduct (sexual activity), drinking alco-

    hol, and so on. I lay open and confessthe serious transgressions and downfallsdue to receiving refuge vows, initiationsand so on, but not knowing to keep the

    respective vows and commitments.12

    Since a confession will not purify if there

    is no regret, I confess with great remorse,with shame, and with despair at myprevious harmful deeds, as if poison hadattained the depth of my being.

    Since there will be no purication if I amnot keeping to my vows from now on, Ipromise in my mind, from today onwards,never to commit non-virtuous activityeven at the cost of my life.

    Please, Sugata Measureless Light andyour heirs, grant your blessing so thatmy stream of being may be completelypuried.

    When I hear about others who haveaccomplished wholesome acts, I abandonall unwholesome thoughts of jealousy andrejoice in their deeds with heartfelt joy,

    which is said to make us obtain a merit

    equal to theirs.For this reason, I rejoice in whatevervirtuous deeds are accomplished byrealised and ordinary beings.

    I also rejoice in the vast activityaccomplished for the benet of beingsdue to developing the mind of supremeunsurpassable enlightenment.

    I rejoice in giving up the ten unwholesomeand performing the ten wholesomeacts: to protect the life of others, to giveofferings, and to keep ones vows; to

    speak the truth, to reconcile adversaries,to speak peacefully, gently and sincerely,and to engage in conversations whichare meaningful; to have little desire, tocultivate love and compassion and to

    practise the Dharma in all these virtuous

    acts I rejoice.I exhort all those perfect buddhas whodwell in all the myriad worlds of the tendirections to quickly and extensively turn

    the wheel of dharma without waiting anylonger. Please be aware of this requestwith your clairvoyant mind.

    I supplicate all the buddhas, bodhisattvas,

    holders of the teaching, and spiritualfriends who intend to go beyond sufferingto remain and not pass into nirvana.

    As it was shown, I dedicate all my virtuous

    acts of the three times for the benet of allsentient beings.

    May all of us quickly obtain unsurpassableenlightenment and stir the three realms of

    samsara from their depth.15

    May these virtuous deeds quickly ripen

    for me and pacify the eighteen causes ofuntimely death in this life .

    May I be endowed with the physicalstrength of a healthy adolescent in full

    bloom.May my material wealth never decline,but increase as the river Ganges in themonsoon.

    May I practise the noble dharma withoutdanger through demons or enemies.

    May all my wishes be fullled inaccordance with the dharma.

    May I be of great benet for the teachingand for beings.

    May I accomplish the true meaning of this

    human existence.16

    At the very moment when I and all those

    who have a connection with me passbeyond this life, may the emanation ofBuddha Amitabha surrounded by hisretinue of a sangha of monks actuallycome to meet us.

    On seeing him, may our mind be happyand joyful, and may there be no moresuffering of death.

    May by the force of their miraculouspowers the eight bodhisattva brothersappear in the sky and guide us indicatingthe path to Dewachen.

    The suffering in the lower realms isunbearable, and the joy and well-beingof gods and humans is impermanent understanding this, may I develop afearful mind and develop disgust with

    samsara that had to be endured from

    beginningless time until now.Even those who go from one supremehuman life to another experiencecountless times birth, old age, illness

    and death. In these difcult, degeneratetimes when there are many obstacles andthe well-being and happiness of humansand gods are similar to food mixed withpoison, may I have not even a hair tip of

    attachment.

    May I be free of even the slightestattachment to relatives, food, wealth andcompanions, which are impermanent and

    illusory like a dream.

    May I understand the countries, placesand lodgings to have no real existence justlike the places and houses in my dreams.

    Like a criminal liberated from prison,

    may I without ever looking back escapefrom this ocean of samsara that knows nofreedom to the pure realm of Dewachen.

    Having cut all links of attachment and

    desire, may I y off in space just like avulture freed from a net and instantlyreach Dewachen travelling beyond thecountless universes in the Westerndirection.

    May I see the face of Buddha MeasurelessLight who is actually dwelling there andpurify all my veils.

    May I take the superior of the four kindsof birth and be miraculously born fromthe heart of a lotus ower.

    Obtaining in one instant the complete

    perfect body, may I receive a body

    endowed with all the marks and the signs.If I doubt and hesitate to be born there,the blossom of the ower will not open for500 years, but inside of it I will be happy

    and content with all enjoyments. Eventhough I will hear the word of the Buddha,may this fault of delayed meeting with theBuddhas face not happen to me.

    May the ower open as soon as I am bornso that I may see the face of Amitabha.

    By the force of my merit and magicalpowers, may inconceivable clouds of

    offerings emanate from the palms of myhands as offerings to the Buddha and hisretinue.

    May at that moment the tathagata

    stretch out his right hand, place it on my

    head, and may I obtain his prophecy ofenlightenment

    Having listened to the Dharma, which isprofound and vast, may my mind ripen

    and be liberated.Chenrezi and Vajrapani being theprincipal bodhisattvas , may I be blessedand guided by these two.

    Almost every day countless buddhas andbodhisattvas of the ten directions cometo make offerings and see Amitabha inthis land. At that time, may I pay homage

    to all of them and obtain the nectar of thedharma.

    Through my limitless magical powers,may I go in the morning towards the realm

    of True Happiness, to the Glorious Land,

    to [the lands] Supreme Activity and DenseArray. May I request initiations, blessingsand vows of the buddhas Akshobya,Ratnasambhava, Amoghasiddhi, Vairocanaetc., make many offerings, and in the

    evening without any effort return toDewachen itself.

    There are a billion realms of pureemanations such as the lands of Potala,

    Alakavati, Kurava, and the land of Urgyen with a billion Chenrezi, Tara, Vajrapani,and Padmasambhava. May I encounterthem and make oceans of offerings,

    request initiations and profound pithinstructions, and quickly return withoutany obstacle to my place in Dewachen.

    May I clearly see with my divine eye all the

    close friends, monks and students and so

    on, and may I be able to guard and protectthem, bestow blessings and at the time oftheir death guide them to this land.

    This Fortunate Aeon that lasts for one

    aeon equals only a single day in Dewachen may I live countless Dewachen aeonswithout ever dying and continuouslyremain in this land.

    From Maitreya to Mpa, the nal one,may I see all the buddhas of the FortunateAeon when they appear in this world.

    With my magical powers, may I go to

    meet these buddhas, make offerings tothem and listen to the noble dharma, andthen again, without any obstacles, returnto the pure land of Dewachen.

    Dewachen unites the totality of all

    qualities of the buddha realms of eightyone billion trillion buddhas. May Ibe reborn in this land of Dewachen,outstandingly supreme among all purelands.

    The ground which is made of jewels is assmooth as the palm of a hand and vast,spacious and radiant blazing with lightrays. When it is pressed down, it gives

    way, and on lifting up, it rebounds. MayI be reborn in this joyful, pleasant land ofhappiness.

    There are wish fullling trees made of

    many jewels with leaves of ne silk andfruits ornamented with jewels. On themgather ocks of emanation birds, whichchant in very agreeable ways proclaiming

    the sounds of the profound and vast

    dharma may I be reborn in this land ofgreat wonders.

    The many rivers are of perfumed waterwith the eight qualities and the water in

    the bathing ponds is of nectar. They aresurrounded by stairs and cornices madeof the seven kinds of jewels and displayfragrant lotus owers bearing fruit andemanating countless rays of lotus light.

    The tips of the light rays are adorned withemanated buddhas may I be reborn inthis land of greatest marvel.

    May I be born in this Land of Great Joy,

    where even the words eight unttingconditions or hell are unheard of and where never any suffering is known,neither are the ve or three emotions that

    are like poisons, nor sickness, mental

    illness, enemies, poverty, quarrels, andso on.

    May I be born in this land of limitlessqualities where there are no men or

    women, no beings born from a womb,since all are noble beings born fromwithin lotus owers. Here all bodies arewithout any difference, of golden colour,endowed with the marks and signs, like

    the topknot on their head, and so on,possessing all ve special powers and theve eyes.

    Whatever I desire and think of, palaces

    made of a variety of jewels and allenjoyments arise by themselves; no effortis necessary, all needs are spontaneouslyfullled. There is no distinction between

    you and me, no clinging to a self. All my

    wishes manifest as offering clouds arisingfrom the palm of my hand, and everyonepractises the dharma of the unsurpassableGreat Vehicle may I be born in thisrealm, source of all bliss and happiness.

    A fragrant breeze brings great showersof owers, and from the trees, rivers andlotus owers arise heaps of clouds withall sorts of enjoyments: agreeable shapes,

    sounds, smells, tastes and touches.There are no women, but an abundanceof emanated goddesses. These manyoffering goddesses continuously present

    offerings.At the time when I wish to rest, jewelpalaces appear, and when I wish to sleep,beautiful thrones arise, covered with

    many pillows and cushions of ne silk,

    together with birds, wish fullling trees,rivers, music, and so on. When I wish tolisten to them, they emanate the pleasantsound of dharma, and when I do not want,no sound is heard. Also the ponds and

    rivers are exactly as I wish, cold or warm,just as it is pleasing to me may I be bornin this land where all wishes are fullled.

    The perfect buddha Measureless Light

    will remain in this land for countlessaeons, without going into Nirvana mayI act as his servant for all this time.

    Until his passing into peace after two

    times the number of aeons as there aresand particles in the Ganges, his teachingwill remain At that time may I not beseparated from his regent Chenrezi and

    uphold the noble dharma.28

    When at dusk the sun of the dharma is

    setting, the very next morning Chenreziwill be a perfect buddha. He will be theKing whose light rays manifest theaccumulated Splendour of all NobleOnes. When this happens, may I see

    his face, make offerings and listen to thenoble dharma.

    During the sixty-six trillion million aeonsthat he will live, may I continuously be

    his servant, worship him, and uphold thenoble dharma without ever forgetting toremember his words. After he has passedinto nirvana, his teaching will remain for

    three times six hundred billion millionaeons may I uphold the dharma duringall this time and never be separated fromVajrapani.

    When Vajrapani becomes the buddha

    Completely reliable Tathagata Kingof abundant jewel-like qualities witha life span and teaching just as those ofChenrezi, may we continuously be theservants of this buddha as well, present

    our offerings and uphold all the nobledharma.

    When my life is over, may I instantly obtainunsurpassable perfect buddhahood in this

    or one of the other pure realms.

    Having obtained perfect buddhahood,may all beings just as with Amitayus be ripened and liberated by simply

    hearing my name, and may there arise,through countless emanations thatguide sentient beings and through othermeans, spontaneously and without effort

    a limitless benet for beings.30

    The buddhas life span, his merit, his

    qualities, and his pristine awareness, aswell as his splendour are beyond measure,and it is said that someone who remembersYour name be it Dharmakaya LimitlessRadiance, Measureless Light (Amitabha)

    or Bhagavan of Immeasurable Life andPrimordial Wisdom (Amitayus) willbe protected against all dangers throughre, water, poisons, weapons, evil

    doers, demons, and so on, with the onlyexception of the full ripening of previouskarma. By remembering Your name andprostrating, please protect us from alldangers and sufferings and grant your

    blessing of excellent auspiciousness.

    Through the blessing of having masteredthe three bodies of the Buddha, throughthe blessing of the truth of unchanging

    dharmata, and through the blessing of the

    undivided aspiration of the sangha, mayall my prayers be accomplished just as itis wished.
