Design is increasingly getting the attention it deserves. It is one of the most, if not THE most important thing a company develops. Great design inspires, engages, simplifies and solves what ails us. It also sets companies apart from the competition, especially essential in commodity markets. Because of these reasons, design is never finished. It is an ever-evolving quest to discover what will make something better. Often times we experiment with design at Momentum. With the design trend test drive project we wondered what would happen if we selected a few of the latest trends and merged them with Momentum’s Brand Identity. No rules around what could be touched, no styles were off limits. Here are the latest 2014 trends we considered testing:

PATTERNThe Momentum Logo was reimagined using a pattern of a single shape. The shape is a squared-off version of the rectangle that makes up Momentum’s current logo.

PATTERNHere is a collection of items that the secondary pattern logo, along with the primary logo, might be applied to. The complete stationery suite is dominated by black and white highlighted by the color of the two logos.

HIGHCONTRASTHigh contrast is a trend that many companies are using and will continue to use in 2014. The higher the contrast amongst colors, the more they seem to ‘pop’ off the product. Specifically, black and white often evokes a sense of class and elegance.

FLATFlat design has been trending for quite a while now and it isn’t slowing down anytime soon. The use of flat and minimal designs used in user interface and web design has really taken off. Here is a reimagining of Momentum’s Android and iPhone app with the use of flat icons and navigation.

KRAFTUsing kraft paper or the appearance of kraft paper is another trend that has risen in recent years. The material is great for giving a product a homemade feel. Logos of any color can be seen easily due to the contrast of the kraft paper.
