Edith Fitzgerald is one of Rozella CLAPP's sistersMILAN SETTLEMENTA short distance northwest from Hill's Spring, in 1840, then was erecteda log cabin, known as the home of Armstead C. Hill, the first settler inthe vicinity of Milan. Mr. Hill first settled south of Milan about eightmiles, but was not wholly contented with his location, and sought tobetter himself by the change, and thus became the first settler of thedivision. Thomas Lane, John Baldridge, Esom Hannon, William Talley,Joseph Couch, FRANCIS Drake, Donnel Doyle, Ira Sears and many others camein 1840 and 1841, so that by the close of the last mentioned year theMilan settlement had become the most important of any in the county. Notes for Emma MCCLASKEY:Birth: Information from Obituary. Mrs. Taylor Dies Suddenly.Mrs. Emma Taylor died at St. Regis Monday evening about 5:30 after an illness of about 30minutes. Mrs. Emma McClaskey Taylor was born in Savannah, Mo., Feb. 20, 1871 and had beena resident of Mineral county for the past five years. Before coming to St. Regis she was a highschool teacher in Butte and two of her daughters, Mrs. Cecil Murphy and Miss Leah Taylor areteachers in this county at the present time. Mrs. Taylor was the mother of six children, three ofwhom survive her. Mrs. Ivan E. Merrick of Seattle, Mrs. Cecil Murphy of Saltese and Miss LeahTaylor of St. Regis, a son, Nicholas Taylor, was killed in an auto accident on the St. Regis grade afew years ago. At the time of the death of Mrs. TAylor she had just returned from a visit to thebusiness section of the town, and upon reaching her home, she complained of feeling ill. Sheexpired within 30 minutes. Dr. Torpin was called and the ailment was decided to be a heart trouble.

The remains were taken to Butte where the funeral services will be held from the home of hersister, Mrs. J. M. Murphy of that city today. Mrs. Taylor was a lady of education and quality andhad many friends in the neighborhood where she lived and through the county where heracquaintenance extended.Listed in the 1870 US Census for Jackson Township, Andrew Co., Fillmore PO., Missouri on page190, Family #364 as Emily, Age 2 on 24 August 1870, born in Missouri. Caroline Jane Stuart was born in Iowa, March 18, 1894. Her parents moved to Oklahoma whenshe was a small girl, where she lived until she was united in marriage to John (Robert)McClaskey, November 29, 1913. They moved to Colorado in 1913, where she died at 34 years,11 months, 22 days.
She leaves a loving husband and six children to mourn her departure; also a mother, four sistersand two brothers.
She was unted with the Christian Church in 1910 and was a devoted member until her death.
She was a home loving woman and her time was spent caring for her children.
To her struggles and burdensome earth are ended and we confidently trust that like one whoawakes from a troubled dream, she has awakened to see life's endless morning break and knowsherself at home with all the vast throng of loved ones, missed from earth, safe about her.
She is still the mother of the dear children, upon whom she doted with such clinging fondness, andthe companion of him who mourns earth's greatest loss and may she not by this very transistionwield over them a stronger force for goodness and truth than ever before.

Family stories had it that Cordelia was supposed to have been part Choctaw Indian and belongedto the tribe in Oklahoma. I, Peggy Ann Rowe, Lily McClaskey Rowe's grand daughter heard thisstory numerous times while growing up. Even grandma began to believe them, as I noticed on herhome she had a bumper sticker, "Proud to be a Choctaw Indian." I once wrote Aunt Emelineaskng her if we were part indian. And the answer was an infatic, resounding, "NO". Being youngand seeing my grandmothers darker complextion and hair I hung onto the story I was told. I waspart Choctaw Indian. It wasn't long after grandma's death that I broke the line wide open andrealized that Grandma was no Choctaw Indian. She is German, Scotch-Irish. Her grandparents,Cordelia Jane Stuart's parents, were involved with a land run on an indian reservation that wasopened up for white settlement. I bet you can imagine what indian tribe that was?
