• “A” – tag given to Hester Prynne by the society.
• It is a punishment.• “Don’t put her in prison,
put prison in her.” – The Scarlet Letter(1995 film).

Hindu Mythology• Shringar incorporates ‘Shri’. • It is other name of ‘Laxmi’, the goddess of
wealth, luck and beauty. • The bride and newly married woman is
considered and called Laxmi who brings prosperity with her.

• Has she really committed some crime????
• Have all the women committed some or the other sin???
• Aren’t all the women treated the same way as Hester???

• From rich to poor and metro cities to villages, almost all the Indian families believe in these traditions and follow them whether they know the implications or not.
• All the tags are the archetypal mindset of the society…
• Why the man are not given any tags?????

Conclusion
• With the passing of time, Hester starts liking the tag “A”. She becomes use to it.
• She was not identified without “A”.• It becomes a integral part of her identity and
when it becomes then she doesn’t feel insulted.• Similarly “Solah Shringar” has been internalize
by Indian women. So it doesn’t seem to be harmful, though it is harmful.
