PROCESION IN HONOR OF THE CHILD JESUS

Each year on Christmas Day, our Spanish community celebrates the Pasada del Niño, a parade-like procession beginning at 1:00pm at the Peekskill Train Station and continuing up Central Avenue to the Church. This procession consists of “Allegorical Cars” – elaborately decorated vehicles accompanied by family members dressed as characters in the Gospel infancy narratives. The final figure in the Pasada is the statue of the Child Jesus, which was donated to Assumption in 2008 by the Archbishop of Cuenca (Ecuador). A solemn Christmas Mass will follow in the Church at 2:30pm. All are welcome to experience this festive display of faith and devotion.

Welcome home! My dear brothers and sisters,

How many times we have heard this beautiful greeting “Welcome home”. It is always said to those we love and take care the most. To welcome someone means to open my life to give and receive the gift of love that God has poured into our souls.

For four weeks we have prepared our lives to welcome into our homes the Only Begotten Son of God, Jesus Christ. To invite Jesus to come in and be with us during this Christmas season, must provoke a deeper interaction and communication among us. His Divine presence and light will show that mercy and forgiveness are above all, and these are the gifts that we receive into our homes when we welcome the Holy Family of Nazareth under our roofs.

Let us welcome into our homes that shining light of Bethlehem, Jesus Christ. His brightness and wisdom change our hearts and lead us to get closer to eternal life. Let us not get discouraged if we have not enjoyed or lived to the full the experience of the Messiah. Christmas season just began, and it is the perfect moment to really go to the manger and admire, adore, glorify and praise that Divine-Human God who has placed his tent among his people.

On behalf of Fr. Vincent Druding, Deacon Carlos, and all our staff and volunteers, I wish you a Blessed Christmas Day and season. May Our Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph show us the way to grow in love and holiness until the day we will enter God’s holy place. And do not forget to pray for your priests. Merry Christmas to you.

Father Esteban Sanchez

CHRISTMAS PRAYER

Loving God,

for your blessing on all families.

Let Mary’s openness to your wondrous ways

be an inspiration to place all trust in you.

Let Joseph’s courage provide hope during

RESPECT LIFE

The Incarnation "By his incarnation the Son of God has united himself in some fashion with every human being" (Vatican II, GS 22). This saving event reveals to humanity not only the boundless love

of God who "so loved the world that he gave his only Son" (Jn 3:16), but also the incomparable value of every human person. The Church, faithfully contemplating the mystery of the Redemption, acknowledges this value with ever new wonder. She feels called to proclaim to the people of all times this "Gospel", the source of invincible hope and true joy for every period of history. The Gospel of God's love for man, the Gospel of the dignity of the person and the Gospel of life are a single and indivisible Gospel” (Pope John Paul II, The Gospel of Life, n.2). The next Respect Life Holy Hour: Friday, January 19, 2018 at 7:00pm.

NATIONAL NIGHT OF PRAYER FOR THE UNBORN December 28 marks the Feast of the Holy innocents when, during the Octave of Christmas, we commemorate those infants slaughtered by King Herod. The Unites States Bishops ask Catholics on that date to remember the unborn. Accordingly, Assumption will host a bilingual holy hour on Thursday, December 28 at 6:00pm. A night of Eucharistic Adoration, music, praying of the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and other prayers for the protection of innocent human life in the womb and healing for those who have had abortions.

ITALIAN MASS Assumption is pleased to invite all to attend a special Italian Mass on Thursday, December 28 at 7:00pm. There will be coffee and baked goods served after the Mass in the Father Wilson Hall, hosted by

the Italian Group. We hope you’ll be able to join us for an

evening of prayer and unity. Ci vediamo!

MARCH FOR LIFE 2018 The annual March for Life in Washington D.C. takes place on Friday, January 19, 2018. Forty-five years ago, the Supreme Court handed down its decision in Roe. V. Wade, legalizing abortion and leading to the deaths of millions of babies in the USA. Please join hundreds of thousands from around the nation as we march, hand in hand, to stop abortion.

THAT’S THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT

“Whatever you did for one of the last of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)

A big “Thank You “to our Assumption parishioners who participated in our annual Giving Tree, buying Christmas gifts for the neediest children of Peekskill. By taking a Giving tree tag listing a name and the person’s wishes, these generous parishioners can be assured many children wake up on Christmas morning, overjoyed that their fondest dreams were fulfilled.
