How to Prepare Before?

• Check out a textbook• Go to www.desertviewdeca.com– Study Vocabulary– Practice Role Plays (5-10)

• Learn about the industry and trends…• Practice with a parent, teacher, friend, myself, boss,

other adultAdvance steps:Job Shadow/talk to someone in the industryVideo Tape yourself and watch…

What You Will Need?

• Professional Dress• A Watch • Patience• Non Graphing Calculator… • Pencil and Paper provided• Positive Attitude• SMILE!!!!! PRACTICE IT!!!!!!

What will it look like?

• Be at your event at least 30 minutes before• Large room with everyone in it• One row per event• You will be called by event name or prep time• Guide to seat (Role plays taped to table)• Then guided to Judges room

How to use your “prep time”!

• Begin by reading and “Charting” as you go.– You can’t write on the paper so just chart on

separate sheet• Answer Key Main Questions to Yourself– What is it about? – Who are you? Who are they? – What is the Issue?

• Respond to the issue, but target the “Performance Indicators” One by One

Dealing with Performance Indicators

• Simplify the performance indicators for yourself

• On your scrap paper…Use these simplified performance indicators as Heading/Titles

• Write at least 2 to 3 ideas for each

• If only one? Then find a way to drag it out to make it sound longer

Key Words of Performance Indicator Here• Try to have 3 bullet

points• No more than 7 words • Put title in all CAPS or

make stand out• Add a drawing if time• Present in order

After finishing with your last PI, but before Judge’s ? And you thanking the judge

• We believe if we target the issue by doing…”summarize your ideas”….we will be successful

• Keeping all these ideas in mind we should be successful in….”addressing the said role play issue” and receive the best results.

• If we follow these steps than we will be able to achieve the desired results!

Practice what you will say!!!

• Use about half the time to practice perfecting your speech

• You want to say the key words of the performance indicators at least 2-3 times to make sure the judge hears you.

• Add a way to end your speech/presentation
