DEACON OF THE MONTH

David Salter

David moved here in the early 1980’s from Columbia, after spending many of his summers here. In 1983, David came ashore while wind-surfing because a volleyball game piqued his interest. While there, he was introduced to Tammy. They were married in 1985 by Ralph Warren here at EBBC. They have raised three children on Edisto and have four grandchildren. David is an electrical contractor and Tammy takes care of many of us at McConkeys. Additionally, David plays the guitar, sings with the choir and serves on the Personnel Committee. Also, congratulations to David & Tammy in the birth of their granddaughter, Ann Kathleen, born November 7 and weighing 8 lbs, 5 oz. Proud parents are Caroline & Cole Smith.

This week we begin a new worship series that we are calling ‘Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. You can probably guess who will be at the center of our worship during these weeks...yep, Jesus. One of our song writers has said, ‘there is a name I love to hear, I love to sing it’s worth’. So, during these next few weeks we will be hearing the name of Jesus again and again as we think about His worth to us, His worth to His church and His worth to a lost world. We will be using Mark’s Gospel as our guide to all things Jesus (well, not all, but a lot!). Mark’s Gospel is known for his hurrying things along in an effort to tell as much of the good news about Jesus as he can. We will be listening to Mark as he tells us that Jesus Calls, Teaches, Rules, Saves, Heals, Provides, Corrects and much more. Anyone who would like to know more about who it is at the center of Christianity will find themselves wonderfully informed and encouraged by this series. Anyone who is thinking about making that life-changing decision to follow Jesus will find much to stimulate that decision as we worship around the story of the one who bids all men to ‘come follow me’. Join us each Sunday morning at 10:00 am and think of a friend to invite who needs to know Jesus or needs to know more about following Jesus.

NEW WORSHIP SERIES ‘Jesus, Jesus, Jesus’

Edisto Island Community Chorus Christmas Concert Be sure to join us for this delightful opportunity to renew and restore your Christmas spirit. This year, our theme is “Noel”, which you would figure out pretty quickly. Those returning this year are The EICC Band: Dan Cutler—bass, David Salter— guitar, and Carroll Carter—percussion. We have the Edisto Brass, who will join us on Sunday. New this year as soloist is Elizabeth Galaida, who is the organist at the Episcopal Church on Edisto. There may also be a duet. Add

the vocalists and you’ll definitely enjoy a great Christmas treat.

Join us for either performance—or both; Saturday, December 2nd at 3:00 pm or Sunday, December 3rd at 7:00 pm. Please stay afterward for fellowship and refreshments in the Fellowship Hall.

A MESSAGE FROM THE FLORAL COMMITTEE:

Effective January 1, 2018 we will begin a new policy regarding flowers for the Sunday worship service. The church will no longer be responsible for ordering OR paying for floral arrangements. Anyone who provides flowers will need to order from the florist of their choice, make payment, and arrange for pick up or delivery. The church will continue to accept orders and payment for Easter lilies and Christmas poinsettias.

If you wish to provide Sunday flowers, please follow these guidelines:

a) Sign your name next to the appropriate date on our 2018 Flower Calendar located on the bulletin board across from the kitchen.

b) Contact the church office and let Diane know how to designate your flowers in the Sunday bulletin.

c) Contact the florist of your choice at least one week in advance to order and make payment for your arrangement. (Suggested florists and their contact information will be posted on the calendar).

Please note any dates that have already been reserved for 2018 will be transferred to the new calendar.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we implement this new policy.

It’s that time of year! Come join us on Monday, December 4th

starting at 2:00 pm to put up and decorate the new Christmas tree. The greens and decorations have already been “hung”, but the tree cannot be put up until after the Edisto Island Community Chorus performances. There are jobs for everyone, but especially for a few men, plus women & children so be sure to come help us! These decorations are always an enhancement to our praise and worship during this wonderful season. Hope to see you there!

In this lifelong quest of faith, learn to develop your intimacy with Him and embrace the adventure that comes with living a life for God.

Two Eve’s

Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve both fall on Sundays this year. Our scheduling for both days will be the same, Worship Only at 10am. Our Christmas Eve service will feature some of the things we traditionally do in that service including a Chil-dren’s story time and Communion. We always have many guests and family mem-bers whose presence makes our Christmas Eve worship even more special. We hope you can plan to join us for these two special times for worship, December 24 and December 31 @ 10am. Merry Christmas.
