I plant a seed wiggle ring finger

I find a seed I plant a seed I water a seed I grow a seed And now I have a ... PUMPKIN!

3.The Eensy Weensy SpiderThe eensy weensy spider went up the water spout

alternately touch the pointer finger of one hand to the thumb of the other hand, climbing the “spider” upward

Down came the rain and washed the spider outhold both hands out in front, wiggle fingers down, then sweep arms out to sides

Out came the sun and dried up all the rainreach up high and wave hands from side to side

So the eensy weensy spider went up the spout againas above

Try singing this song again, first quietly for a small spider, using tiny actions and then loudly for a large spider, using big actions!

The teensy weensy spider went up the water spout Down came a raindrop and washed the spider out …

The great big spider went up the water spout Down came a thundershower and washed the spider out …


4. This Little Piggy Went To MarketThis little piggy went to market

This little piggy stayed homewiggle pointer finger

This little piggy ate roast beefwiggle middle finger

This little piggy had nonewiggle ring finger

But this little piggy went “Wee wee wee wee wee” all the way home!

The 3rd little piggy might want to eat something other than roast beef. In that case, here are some ideas for the menu:

This little piggy ate yogurt … This little piggy ate blueberries … This little piggy ate sweet potato … This little piggy ate noodles … This little piggy ate a grilled cheese sandwich … This little piggy ate samosas …

This rhyme is often enjoyed as a toeplay as well.


5. Whoops! JohnnyTap and slide with the opposite hand’s pointer finger:

Johnny, Johnny, Johnny, Johnnytap tops of little finger, ring finger, middle finger, pointer finger

WHOOPS!slide all the way down to the “valley” between pointer finger and thumb, and then continue to top of thumb

WHOOPS!slide all the way back down thumb and then up to top of pointer finger

Johnny, Johnny, Johnny, Johnnytap tops of pointer finger, middle finger, ring finger, little finger

For more fun, try replacing the word “Johnny” with a different name or an object. Then the rhyme might go like this:

6. Here’s a Pot of TeaThis fingerplay works best with two people, but it can be done alone if one of the two “cups” turns into the “teapot” and then back again into a “cup” when needed.

Here’s a cup curl fingers of one hand into a fist

And here’s a cupcurl fingers of another hand into a fist

And here’s a pot of tea one person makes a fist “teapot” with a thumb “spout” sticking out

Pour a cup tip “pot” fist into one of the fist “cups”

And pour a cup tip “pot” fist into the other fist “cup”

And drink it up with me

SLURP!drink from one ”cup”

And drink it up with me

SLURP! drink from the other ”cup”

7. A Daisy in the GardenA daisy in the garden is closed up tight

close hand into a fist

It stays that way all through the night keep it closed

But in the morning when the sun shines bright wave other hand high

9. Minnows in the Georgian Bay

Begin by showing one finger:

One little minnow

Swimming in the waterfinger wiggles and swims about

Tickles my toes! Then it swims away

hide finger behind back

Bring back the “minnow” and now show two fingers:

10. The Wise Mother DuckHere is the mother duck looking so fine

And her four little baby ducks, all in a line

Wherever the mother duck decides to go point to thumb

Along come the baby ducks all in a row point to fingers

Up – Down – Up – Down – Up – Down – Up – Down“duck family” swims along as though riding waves

The wise mother duck finds her nest in the grass fingers of other hand move like grass in wind; lay “mother duck” in palm

And the four little baby ducks are home at last curl “grass” fingers around “duck family”

14. Ten Little BatsTen little bats in the starry sky

But ten little bats, when the sun shines bright join hands together to make arch above head

Hide in their cave until the very next night separate hands, wiggle fingers and hide hands behind back

15. I Shut the DoorBegin with hands held wide apart:

I shut the door clap hands on word “shut”

And I lock it tightinterlock fingers

I put the key right out of sight separate hands, hold up one pointer finger, then hide it behind your back

I find the key bring back the pointer finger

To open the doorhold out other hand, fingers together

And I turn and I turn and I turn some moreplace “key” fingertip on “door,” then twist “key” several times

And then … I open the door … Creeeeeeeeeeeeeeak! palms together, then separate slowly until wide apart



16. One Train EngineThis fingerplay uses just one finger:

One train engine going down the trackpointer finger traces a line from top of head down to toes

Chug, chug, chug, chug, clickety, clickety, clack

One train engine going up the trackpointer finger traces a line from toes up to top of head

Chug, chug, chug, chug, clickety, clickety, clack

TOOT! TOOT!tap top of head on each “Toot!”


17. Here is the MountainHere is the mountain

make upside-down “V” with palms facing, fingertips touching

Here is the towncup hands together, palms up

Here are the streets that go ‘round and ‘round

with pointer finger of one hand, trace circles in other palm

This is the river snake one arm from side to side

Under the bridge arch other arm over “river” arm

And this is the towerraise pointer finger

High on the ridgeset “tower” finger on opposite arm

Here are the flowershold up hands and wiggle fingers

Wherever you roam

And here is the bell dangle one hand from wrist or from straightened arm

That is calling you home
