Students travelled to Setia Badminton Academy for the first time on Tuesday in preparation for the ISAC and KLISS athletics championships coming up later this term. Students opted for their specialist running event and had the opportunity to develop and improve their techniques and fitness levels. Primary students have had the opportunity to participate in a trial in their PE lesson, experiencing the running, jumping and throwing events for their age groups. They were also invited to improve their performances at lunchtimes. The high jump and 60 metre sprint turned out to be popular events. Primary students will be selected for the team dependent on their times and/or distances and will be informed by a letter at the start of next week. Students in secondary are expected to attend athletics club on Tuesdays if they would like to be selected for the Tenby Athletics Team. U15 girls narrowly held onto their lead in tonights match against Nexus. After gaining an 11 point lead the girls were put under pressure by Nexus in the last quarter. Tenby held their nerve and won by 2 points. O15 boys the boys were dominant in their match against ISKL a well drilled team who at times put the Tenby boys under pressure physically and tactically. Tenby held off ISKL by 3 points and won in a high scoring game 35-32. They travel back to ISKL to play in the finals this week. O15 girls the girls had a tougher time on court against ISKL. As a relatively new team with players from year 9 and 10 stepping up, they played as a strong network and learned a lot from each other. They lost 22-13 but they head back to ISKL to play them again in the finals so we hope they can give them a scare this time! CALLING ALL YEAR 7 & 8 boys and girls! The inter house duathlon for secondary takes place 27th, 28th and 29th January and for year 4, 5 and 6 students on 4th and 5th February during lunchtime. The event consists of a team of 2, 3 or 4 students from the same house competing in the swim and the run events. See one of the posters around school for details of the distances for your age-group. Collect a sign-up form from the PE department and return it back to Miss Laura by the end of the week. Swimmers It was unfortunate that two swimmers were forgotten off the honours list last weeks newsletter regarding the ISAC Swim Meet before the Christmas holiday. The Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra

During the last week of school, I had the opportunity to join the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestras December programme which was filled with exciting repertoire such as Elgars Enigma Variations and music from Home Alone the movie alongside the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO). The programme which lasted for 3 tiring weeks included the long hour

rehearsals with maestro Fabian Russell. Throughout the entire programme, I had the opportunity to experience the lifestyle of a musician: waking up early to attend rehearsals and working until late at night. Although rehearsals were exhausting, the music was interesting enough to give me the motivation to continue. I felt that the side-by-side Home Alone concert with the MPO was the most interesting part of the programme as I was given the chance to work with professional musicians. By working with them, I learned new music knowledge such as bowing techniques and interpretations which will be beneficial to me in the future. The programme was an overall success as not only did we manage to produce a fantastic concert, the experience gained from the programme was priceless too. By Chris Chan 12T

Before the December break Year 5 were busy making computer games using a program called Scratch. The great thing about Scratch is that it gives children the opportunity to create, personalise, test and review projects created by themselves and their classmates. Scratch involves a lot of logical thinking and problem solving. After the games were completed the

children were set the task of designing a cover for their games. The game covers add an extra dimension to their work and really make the games come to life. Using persuasive language they built excitement and when combined with real reviews by their classmates they managed to produce some fantastic products, some of which are being displayed outside the KS2 ICT lab.
