ARMATURE WINDINGS

Two types of windings mostly employed for the armature of DC Machines are known as;

1.Lap Winding2.Wave Winding

The difference between the two is merely due to the different arrangement of the end connections at the front or commutator end of armature.

In a LAP WINDING, the number of parallel paths (a) is always equal to the number of poles (p) and also equal to the number of brushes.

In a WAVE WINDING, the number of parallel paths (a) is always two and there may be two or more brush points.
