No post code system (with exception of Dublin)

Rural areas: county, nearest post town and townland

Urban addresses: County, city or town, street name, house number and apartment or flat number where relevant

The 26 county names can be written in English or Irish

The country on the envelope can be “Ireland” or “Éire”*

There is no country called the Republic of Ireland; that name was once used, but was abolished long ago; now it is the name of a football team.

The Hispanic honorifics Señor, Señora, and

Señorita are truncated as Sr., Sra., Srta.,

respectively.

The word "Don" at the beginning of a

person’s name indicates a title of respect to a

distinguished or older individual

In Spain, most people live in flats so the floor

number (4º) and often also the letter (B) of

the flat are commonly used.

C = calle - street. Spanish does not use the myriad of possibilities as English

does: road, way, mews, lane etc. but there are some other names:

• 3o - third floor

• 3ª - 3rd Door (NOT Floor!)

• s/n - without ("sin") number -- as when a building is on a street, but

doesn't have a building/house number.

• No. - (Usually indicates that a house/building number follows. Occurs in

only some addresses.)

In small villages street name and city are not

required; information about the zip code, post

office and last name can be enough for a

mailable address.

Post is often distributed in the post office or if

there isn’t any, in other local places like cafés

A street in Greece can have more than one zip

code. It is therefore often important that the

correct street number is used:
