Dale Kaleidoscope NEWSLETTER Sunnydale Newsletter / 1 4TH ISSUE, OCTOBER 2016 Greetings from Sunnydale With this first newsletter after a long gap, I bestow my warm felicitations to the super achievers of Ordinary Level and Advanced Level batches of 2016. Really stupendous has been their performance and it shows the Almighty has yet again endowed Sunnydale with His blessings. Reopening the school after the summer holidays was as dealing with a catch 22; the titanic fear and panic after the Holy Artisan carnage, the rumours thereafter and the responsibility for safety of life under Sunnydale’s roof compelled the management to postpone reopening the school. The gates were opened only after extreme precautions to ensure safety were taken in all the buildings. Installation of CCTVs, introduction of identity cards for all students and visitors’ inspection for security check have since then become an enhanced reinforcement for security at Sunnydale. Those incidents in the past few months have drawn back into my memory the quote by Martin Luther King Jr.: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” I would urge the parent community to teach their children the three core values of life: compassion, humility and endurance besides others. And now a refreshing note to my dear teens of Class VIII onwards: girls are allowed to tie their hair in a simple ponytail and boys are relieved from the usual crew cut hairstyle. I believe my children, my Sunnydalians, know the extent they are expected to go to where discipline and decency matter. So far, it is going good at Sunnydale and I wish better ahead for the whole Sunnydale community. Sincerely, Tazeen Ahmed Principal Sunnydale observed the National Mourning Day paying solemn tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 41st anniversary of martyrdom. His life was commemorated by speeches and essays from students and patriotic songs were sung to honour the occasion. I have walked that long road to freedom I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered that secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can rest only for a moment, for with freedom comes responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not yet ended. - Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela

Greetings from Sunnydale

With this first newsletter after a long gap, I bestow my warm felicitations to the super achievers of Ordinary Level and Advanced Level batches of 2016.

Sincerely,

Tazeen Ahmed Principal

Sunnydale observed the National Mourning Day paying solemn tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 41st anniversary of martyrdom. His life was commemorated by speeches and essays from students and patriotic songs were sung to honour the occasion.

I have walked that long road to freedomI have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered that secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. Sunnydale Clubs

To foster all round development of our children Co-curricular activities were introduced last year and this year too such clubs have been started. CCAs are vital because even though they are not a part of the core curriculum, they play a very crucial role in giving the young boys and girls the ability to mould their lives to become well rounded people. The role of co-curricular activities in a student’s life cannot be put into words easily. Some of the major benefits are:

• overallpersonalitydevelopment• strengthenedselfconfidence• developedspecializedskills• senseofresponsibility• improvedacademicperformance, etc. There are a lot many clubs that a student can choose from or the clubs can even be self-initiated. Some of the clubs are Debate Club, Dance Club, Music Club, English Club, Bangla Club, Science and Mathematics Club, Spelling Bee Club and Arts and Crafts Club.

“Allworkandnoplay,makesJackadullboy.”

Workshop on MUNA workshop on MUN was conducted in September.

The aim was to eradicate the confusion about MUN’s

entity. The students who have already participated

in MUN conference as delegates narrated their

experience and learning from it.

What is MUN actually?MUN or Model United Nations is an

academic simulation of the United

Nations where students play the

role of delegates from different

countries and attempt to solve real

world issues with the policies and perspectives of their

assigned country. For example, a student assigned

China would have to solve global topics such as over

population or climate change from the policies and

perspectives of China.

Why MUN?•Helps to be confident

• Improves English fluency and vocabulary

• Improves research skills

• Improves diplomacy, public speaking and

leadership skills

•Enhances thinking capability

•Enlarges friend circle

Parents are requested to be cautious while their cars are driven in front of the school buildings. As in the rush hour all types of vehicles arrive there to drop off and pick up the children, any negligence may result into an untoward incident.

Parking is absolutely not allowed in the adjacent areas and in front of the school buildings. Students should get out of their cars, rickshaws etc., immediately when they reach the gate of their school building. Similarly, at the school dispersal time extreme care should be taken so that smooth flow of vehicles is ensured.

Traffic Rules

Now the students can go for a variety of edibles and snacks available at their canteen. The quality is being liked by the children and they throng the canteen more than ever. The hygienic and wholesome food has provided some relief to the working mothers too.
