The congregation function will start with Kuldev pujan, early in the morning and Havan will start at 8 am. After Puranahuti, the Preeti Bhoj will be served to devotees from 10 am onwards. He further informed that a free medical camp will also be organized on the occasion. The committee also appealed the people to donate generously for the undergoing construction of the Devsthan temple for completion of the same at the earliest. Pilgrim found dead Excelsior Correspondent KATRA, Jan 7: A Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrim from Maharashtra was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Banganga road, here today. The deceased was identified as Vishno Sonaba, son of Sonaba Mohatay of village Baneri, Pune in Maharashtra. He apparently died while pro- ceeding towards the cave shrine. The dead body was brought to CHC Katra for legal formali- ties while Police has registered a case in this connection for fur- ther investigation. Ex-army chief Gen JJ Singh joins SAD, to take on Amarinder CHANDIGARH, Jan 7: Former Army Chief Gen JJ Singh today joined the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal and is set to take on Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh from Patiala Urban seat in the February 4 state assembly elections. 71-year-old Singh, who also served as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, joined the SAD here this evening in the presence of party president and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. Badal told reporters Gen Singh had himself shown interest in contesting from Patiala Urban Assembly seat. He exuded confidence that he will pull off a "historic win" against Amarinder, who is also an ex-Army man. (PTI) Five new IITs get Directors as Prez okays HRD proposal NEW DELHI, Jan 7: President Pranab Mukherjee has approved an HRD ministry proposal appointing Directors to five new IITs of Tirupati, Palakkad, Bhilai-Durg, Goa and Dharwad. All the five Directors have been appointed for a period of five years. According to sources, Prof K N Satyanarayana had been appointed as the Director of IIT Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh while Prof P B Sunil Kumar has been appointed as the Director of IIT Palakkad, Kerala. Prof Rajat Moona has been appointed the Director of IIT Bhilai-Durg while Prof B K Mishra, the Director of IIT Goa. For IIT Dharwad in Karnataka the name of Prof Seshu Pasumarthy has been approved by the President, sources said. (PTI)
