Review of 2002-2003 Daiheigen Development Program The following is a summary of the Daiheigen Judo Yudanshkai development events, which occurred over the past year. Details of each of these events are attached. Each of these events would not have been possible, if not for the continued support of the USJF Development Committee, the leadership of our Executive Board and countless volunteers. We conducted over 10 camps, clinics and other development activities, which trained over 300 judoka, from 11 yudanshakais, along with representatives from three international organizations. As a result of these camps, the technical efficiency of Daiheigen has increased measurably. As of this writing, we have had two people pass the National Referee Examinations conducted February 9, 2003, won 48 gold medals in national and international competition and took many more places and certified 14 members in different katas.

• Kata Development (Coordinated the 2nd Annual USJF National Kata Clinic & two local clinics)

• 8th Annual Judo Development Camp • Supported Competitive Development (Provided monetary support to members to

travel to major tournaments) • Referee Training (Professional development of National Referee and facilitation

of 2 clinics) • Competitive Training (Conducted preparatory Junior National) • Technical Skill Development (Conducted 2 clinics for all ages) • Coaches and teacher development (Conducted 2 coaches workshops (E & D)

which included CPR and First Aid Training) In addition to our development program, 5 new clubs have joined Daiheigen Yudanshakai and the USJF. Without the support of numerous volunteers and USJF funding, we would not have been able to provide these opportunities. Again, without the support of the USJF and the Development Committee, we would not have been able to provide this level of training and development opportunities.

2003-2004 Development Proposal Overview

Program Summary Proposal Committee 9th Junior and Youth Development Camp $3500 Junior Dev. Junior and Youth Development Program $1500 Junior Dev. Yudanshakai Traveling Team $2500 Junior Dev. Daiheigen Development Camp $1500 Junior Dev. Senior Development Program $1500 Senior Dev. Japan Training Trip $2500 Junior Dev. Coaches, Instructors and Teachers Program $2500 Teachers Dev. Referee Development Program $1000 Referee/Cert. Kata Development Program $1500 Kata Total proposed budget $18000 While the basis of our Development program remains intact, the 2003-2004 program extends the technical proficiency levels higher. Our development activities now include advanced/elite level events bringing in world class clinicians from all over the world. This program also provides assistance for elite athletes to travel abroad for added exposure to international competition, which is essential for elite athletes. In short, our programs in the past were designed to get this group of athletes to this point so our programs must also continue to elevate but not desert our original goals for our future judoka. While providing this support we are asking that these athletes give back to our program through participation in our beginning/intermediate development programs mainly as clinicians. Other programs being elevated are coach/instructor/teachers by providing assistance to travel to the Kodokan Instructor/Teachers seminars. This will supplement training provided by the USJF NTIS program furthering the proficiency of Daiheigen instructors. Other new programs include nutrition, junior national coach education and taping.

Competing with different judo athletes from around the Country will enhance their skills and better prepare them for National and International competitions. These funds will be used to help subsidize training and travel cost of athletes and coaches.
