EVENTS SCHEDULE REGISTRATION DEADLINE 9:00 pm Wednesday March 1st Entry forms with payment should be given to your instructor, or delivered to at Greatland Martial Arts, 520 W. 58th Ave. Anchorage AK 99518. (Instructors, email a list of the registrants you have collected form for to [email protected]) Competitor information (name, sex, date of birth, weight, and club) must be submitted to [email protected] by this time. Contestant’s weights will be verified the prior to the contestant’s division. Contestant’s failing to be under the maximum weight or age for their declared division, or of the incorrect gender, will be dropped from the division without a refund. Contestants may move up age and weight categories if they choose with the appropriate waivers signed. LATE REGISTRATION DEADLINE 7:00 pm Friday March 3rd Late registation will be subject to a $20 late fee. tournament site for review (contestants registering late will be place in an existing bracket, unless it benefits contestants who were pre-registered)

REFEREE AND OFFICIAL MEETING March 4th 9:00 am This will focus the rules of this tournament, coaches and players are welcome to attend. Certified referees and referees in training approved by the head referees or tournament director may officiate at this tournament.

COMPETITION SCHEDULE SATURDAY MARCH 4TH Bracket Check 9:00-10:00 am Competition Begins 10:30 am (Opening Ceremonies) Bracket order will be set during the competition with the goal of making sure competitors are only competing in one division at a time. It is noted, that this goal may not always be achieve able. However, a contestant will not be required to forfeit a mat while actively competing on another mat. JUDO AND JIU JITSU RULES 2016 International Judo Federation and current International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation Contest Rules will be used, as modified below:

1. All submissions must be applied with control in such a way as to allow their opponent the opportunity to submit either by tapping or calling out. Failing to do so will result in immediate disqualification. If the referee and tournament officials believes the action to have been intentional the player will be disqualified from the tournament.

2. A competitor may ask for a medic without losing the match; and a medic may ask to examine a competitor without the competitor losing the match. However, if the medic determines a competitor is not fit to continue competition, the competitor is out of the competition, and may only re-enter with the consent of the medics.

3. Contestants turning 5 years old in 2017 and older will be allowed to participate.

4. Co-ed competition will be allowed in this tournament for U11 and under only if there are not enough participants to fill a division.

5. A 3-minute rest period will be permitted between back to back matches for matches in the same division or matches in Judo and Jiu Jitsu divisions. When competing in more than one division in the same art, back to back matches not in the same division will not require a rest period. The competitor has the right to waive the rest period.

6. Scoring will be double elimination. The winner may have lost once; all other contestants will have lost twice.

7. The competition area will be approximately 24’x24’ (twenty-four feet by twenty-four feet) with a 12’ (twelve foot) safety zone.

8. The following table list the modifications for techniques allowed by division.

Contest Divisions

There will be beginning as well as Intermediate/Advanced divisions for both Judo and Jiu Jitsu. If there are not enough players to fill a division, the players in the division may, with the permission of the tournament director, their coach, and parent or legal guardian if the player is a minor:

1. With draw from the tournament and receive a refund of entry fees. 2. Move to an older (younger for Masters), heavier, or more advanced division. The contestant will then play by

the rules of the division they move into. The contestant will NOT be permitted to move to a younger (except for Masters), lighter, or less experienced division.

3. An exhibition division may be created.

Beginning divisions are intended for players with less than one year of experience, or less than 3 competitions, under the rules of the given art (Judo or Jiu Jitsu) (e.g. a competitor may compete in the intermediate/advanced Jiu Jitsu and still compete in the beginning Judo or vice versa). Minors may elect to compete in a beginning division for safety reasons if there is a difference in permitted techniques between the beginning and intermediate/advanced divisions.

Players may compete in more than one division, and are encouraged to compete in both Judo and Jiu Jitsu divisions.

For Junior divisions (U7 through U17) contestants must be born in the years specified or younger. Juniors may play in the Senior divisions with the appropriate waiver signed by themselves, their parents, their coach, and approved by the tournament director. For Masters divisions, contestants must be the minimum age or older.

Prohibited Throwing Techniques 1. All throws which cause the uke (the receiver of the technique) to land on their head or neck. 2. All throws in which tori (the executer of the technique) throws in such a way as to land on his or her own head. 3. All throws executed while applying a submission technique. 4. NOTICE TO ALL CLUBS Routing of Tournament Documents In order to ensure that tournament documents are not lost nor misplaced, please follow these instructions:

COMPETITION ENTRY FORMS AND WAIVERS: Check to be certain all entry forms have been signed by the coach, competitor, and the competitor’s parents the competitor is a minor. The WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND AGREEMENT TO PARTICIPATE must be signed by all required parties and the waiver for minors playing in a senior division must be signed by the competitor, the competitor’s parent or legal guardian, the competitor’s coach, and the approved by tournament director; failure to do so may result in elimination of the competitor from the competition. All entry forms and fees are due by the registration dates (9:00 PM Wednesday March 1st and late registration (additional $20 fee) by 12:00 PM (noon) Friday March 3rd) REGISTRATION: Send registration information to [email protected] NO LATER THAN March 1st (March 3rd for late registration), 2017. (Coaches may collect forms and fees, and email registrant information. Coaches who collect forms and fees are then responsible for delivering the forms and fees to the tournament director prior to the tournament.)
