The President's Message

Welcome to the 2014 Warwick Continental Little League baseball season! This year, Little League Baseball will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the first ever Little League game played on June 6, 1939 in Williamsport, Pa. Warwick Continental has been a part of this tradition for 54 years, and I express many thanks to all the players, volunteers, parents, and friends who have made this league a success for those 54 years. On Opening Day we celebrate the many years of hard work of Brenda Juhnowski by naming our snack bar “Brenda’s Kitchen” in her honor, in addition to naming her as an Honorary Director. Everyone at Continental past and present is grateful for the many years of service to the league. I am pleased to report that, unlike most leagues throughout the state and country, we have maintained a steady number of players for the past three seasons. While due in part to the expansion of our boundaries into West Warwick and the addition of the Intermediate 50/70 division, much credit goes to the volunteers who have made our complex and fields the finest in the state, and to those dedicated to improving the quality of our baseball and player development. Please help us continue the tradition by supporting our fundraising efforts throughout the year, supporting our sponsors, and, most importantly, by volunteering to help in any way that you can. Best of luck to every player this season, and win or lose, let’s all keep in perspective that the objective of Little League baseball is to learn a little baseball and have a lot of fun doing it.

Each team will play a 20-game schedule, A playoff tournament will be held involving all teams. The winner of the playoff tournament will represent Continental Little League in the 2014 Warwick City Series in late summer. At least one adult per player is required to be present for all practices to monitor and support their children. A fun-filled season will culminate with the “Claim to Fame” games.

This year's Instructional League will be comprised of a Tee Ball division. This divi-sion will offer young athletes an introduction to the fundamentals of baseball and sportsmanship. Volunteer coaches, providing the groundwork for successful Little League careers, will teach basic concepts. The coaches ask for parental involve-ment, both on and off the field, to assist them. Snack bar coverage, field mainte-nance and on-field coaching assistance are only a few of the areas where parents can help.

Please support Continental Little League and its activities. Parental involvement is essential for a successful Little League experience. Best wishes to all Instructional League players and their coaches for a safe, fun-filled season.

2013 Andrew Gauthier President’s Award Winner Michael Murphy & Michael Macchioni This award is given annually in memory of Andrew Gauthier to the major league player who demonstrates hard work, dedication to his team, respect for his teammates, a positive attitude and overall love of life and the game. 2013 Alfred Carpionato Award Winner Max Prescott The Continental Little League Alfred Carpionato Award, named after our bene-factor and donator of the land which is Continental’s home, is presented each year to the Major League player that demonstrates the qualities of team leader-ship and athletic ability. The 2013 winner was "Max Prescott" from the Red Sox.

2013 Louis M. D’Abrosca Memorial Award Winner Robert Petrarca The Louis M.
