The RENDEV project The RENDEV project aims to explore ways to link microfinance and access to renewable

energy, bringing a positive contribution in rural development and poverty alleviation in

Bangladesh and Indonesia by increasing access to solar energy, the development of micro

enterprise, and the provision of microfinance mechanisms tailored for low income people’s

needs.

The project started in January 2007 and will last until December 2009. RENDEV is financed

by the European Commission under its Intelligent Energy line.

The main objectives of the RENDEV project are:

To promote development of income generating activities with renewable energy

supply;

To identify measures justifying involvement of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises in

the solar energy sector;

To build synergies between the microfinance sector, the renewable energy sector and

the micro enterprises in Bangladesh and Indonesia;

To better inform stakeholders providing pro-poor sustainable renewable energy

services;

To bring a positive impact on the quality of life in rural districts.

I. INTRODUCTION

Indonesia has around 220 million populations, 36% this population has no access to energy especially electricity. The economic growth in these areas is also very slow due to lack of economic activities. Energy is one of important factor to improve economic activities. Opportunity to carry out productive activities using local resources is abundant if energy is available. Therefore, accessibility to energy resources is deemed important for people in rural areas to improve their economic activities. However, there are lots of constraints found in the implementation of providing energy in rural areas.

However, it is ensured that building up an adapted financial products and local skills and infrastructure linking microfinance services to solar energy is a vital part of ensuring the long-term success of rural electrification and development programs. The business model will take into consideration the necessity to meet product delivery services and the different developments in the solar energy market. Using microfinance as a way to access to renewable energy will have additional benefits beyond end-user finance.

Objectives Objective of the local training is to prepare local technician on solar PV technology in the villages especially at Pekondoh, Tanjung Agung and Cipadang village, Pesawaran district, Lampung province and at Hegarmanah and Hariang village, Lebak district, Banten province, also at Leuwikaret, Bogor district, West Java province –Indonesia. This local training aims to raise awareness of actors in the microfinance (Village Cooperative Unit), policy makers (Energy and Mineral Resources of local government representative office), end user of solar PV at rural villages (rural community), and thus define a workable of solar PV as well as going to a Sustainable Model the ways possible. The training session have been done on the same time than the D6 Local pilot training provision for the operation and maintenance of the technologies to create more synergies between Stakeholders

And after back to home they will check the battery first its running or not, because the battery is one important think component of solar PV.
