CWB COMPANY CERTIFICATION

Any company that is CWB Cered has undergone a review and qualicaon process

to ensure that they meet the requirements for welding companies as specied in CSA

Standards W47.1, W47.2, W55.3 or W186. Within CSA W47.1 and W47.2, a company

may be Cered in one of three Divisions, based on the type of work to be undertake

and the customer or end user. Within each Division, the CSA Standards provide clear

requirements with respect to the personnel, procedures, as well as workmanship, as

veried though auding, that will be required. Under the Standards/ Divisional requ

ments, each Cered Company is required to employ an adequate number of Weldin

Supervisors, and Welding Engineers with welding related experience, to control weldoperaons. Although not mandated by the above noted Standards, there may be an

addional requirement (such as under CSA W59, another very common CSA Standard

for Cered Welding Inspectors to be also employed by a CWB Cered company.

CWB WELDER, WELDING SUPERVISOR AND WELDING ENGINEER QUALIFICATIO

Starng at the welder level, all welders working for a CWB Cered company must

qualied by the CWB once every two years. This is a praccal test administered by

CWB cercaon representave that normally takes place at the welders place of

employment, using a test plate provided and evaluated by the CWB. Further, depend

on the companys CSA Division, there may be requirements for welders to be

designated by their employer as Welding Supervisors. All Welding Supervisors mu

successfully complete wrien CWB examinaons on welding symbols, weld faults

quality control and inspecon methods and the applicable standard(s) and demonstra

relevant experience before they can be qualied. In addion, depending on the scope

of work being done, there may be an addional requirement under CSA Standards fo

a CWB Qualied Welding Engineer. To become a CWB Welding Engineer it require

suitable experience and knowledge and wring and passing examinaons on the

standards administered by the CWB. To help individuals acquire the required qualica

the CWB Instute runs regular online and classroom courses for Welding Supervisor

as well as providing self study material for prospecve Welding Engineers.

CWB QUALIFICATION OF WELDING PROCEDURES

Under CSA Standard W47.1, W47.2, W186 and W55.3, all CWB Cered Companies

are required to submit their welding procedures to CWB for evaluaon and approv

to ensure they meet the requirements of the governing standard. This must be don

before the start of any work, as outlined within the applicable Standard(s).

CWB WELDING INSPECTOR CERTIFICATION

Mandated by some Canadian Codes and Standards a CWB Cered Welding Inspec

is always a valuable asset to any company interested in delivering quality product

within a quality management system such as ISO 9001 or ISO 3834. All WeldingInspectors are trained in the theory and applicaon of visual inspecon with respec

to welded assemblies and must pass both a CWB praccal and theorecal exam t

become cered. Training for Welding Inspectors (Inspector Level 1,2 & 3) is availa

through the CWB Instute. Beyond visual inspecon the CWB Group can also provi

training for various Non-destrucve Tesng methods (NDT) that complement and

extend the skill set of CWB Cered Inspectors.

CWB CERTIFICATION OF ELECTRODES AND FILLER METALS

Cercaon of welding electrodes and ller metal are required in Canada when

welding under CSA Cercaon Standards. It is also required by certain other code

and standards in Canada, as well as when specied by users as part of their quality

requirements.

QUALIFICATION AND CERTIFICATION OF CANADIAN WELDING PROFESSIONA

AND WELDING COMPANIES TO INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS

As the Authorized Naonal Body (ANB) for the Internaonal Instute of Welding (IIW

the CWB is able to provide several levels of internaonally recognized cercaon

and qualicaon for welding professionals, as well as welding companies.

Within the scope of the IIW ANB agreement, the CWB can provide:

Training Facility Cercaon

For Canadian trade schools, colleges or other post secondary instuon who are

looking to grant IIW diplomas, the CWB can grant approval as an Authorized TraininBody (ATB).

Company Cercaon

For Canadian companies looking to be cered to IS0 3834 standards under IIWs

internaonally recognized Quality Requirements for Welding Standard.

Welding Professional Qualicaon - diplomas in :

Internaonal Welding Engineer (IWE)

Internaonal Welding Technologist (IWT)

Internaonal Welding Specialist (IWS)

Internaonal Welding Praconer (IWP)

In addion, the CWB can provide inspector code endorsement and qualicaon

relang to:

CWB STUD BASE QUALIFICATION

Fabricators performing stud welding under CSA Standard W59 are required to use

only qualied studs through CWB qualicaon program. Studs that are shop or e

applied must be qualied by the manufacturer through CWB to the extent of one

the following codes: CSA W59, AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5 or AWS D1.6. Qualicaon of

studs will ensure that the stud manufacturer has successfully met the tests and th

quality system requirements as specied in the applicable standard.
