The Summary of his research work could be highlighted in these few words.

Aerospace is a key technology today owing to its huge growth in Asia in general and

India in particular. Indian scientists and engineers currently working on strategically

important projects heavily depend on rapid collection of information from various

electronic information resources. Seeking information through e-resources is an

upcoming and endearing activity. The research work analyzes in detail the use patterns

with specific reference to various aerospace engineering e-journals and core e-

databases frequently used by the Indian aerospace scientists and engineers in their

R&D activities.

Moreover with the exponential growth of telecommunication and network technologies,

today’s scientists, engineers and technologists largely depend upon ‘Electronic

Information Resources’ in their day to day scientific work. The coming of the ‘Electronic

Information Resources’ has led to a significant transformation by which scholarly

information is disseminated across the globe. This has greatly affected the way a

scientist or an engineer seeks this information, acquires it and uses it effectively.

For the first time in context with the Indian Aerospace Engineering Community a

thorough research has been conducted (with specific reference to 16 prominent

Aerospace Organizations in Bangalore in understanding the ‘Use Patterns of Electronic

Information Resources’.

This interesting work now paves way for more interesting to be done in this area in the

coming future which would even more fascinating results.

For the first time such large volume of data has been generated and analyzed and

inferences drawn in studying the ‘Use Patterns of Electronic Information Resources’ by

this ‘niche’ Aerospace Engineering Community.

The study also used a novel technique in studying the ‘e-journal download patterns’

among Aerospace Scientists, Engineers and Technologists, namely: The ‘Web Log

Analysis or the Transaction Log Analysis’. Again this is the first initiative in the Indian

scenario where such a novel technique was applied to the Indian Aerospace

Engineering Community. The significant advantage of this technique is, that the data is:

(a) Pure, (b) Unaltered, (c) Unobtrusive and most importantly, (d) Free from Human

Intervention thereby the transparency in the data analysis.

Swarna HamsaTM, a Spin-off product of DSIR, is a

baseline - bamboo laminate based water vessel

version of CSIR HAMSA - a multi-terrain land-

water vehicle system. Quite interestingly, it

generated huge ‘Expression of Interest’ from the

inland fishermen communities for its functionality,

augmented safety and cost-effectiveness. It had its

field trials at Mallaghatta lake, Tumkur , during 21-

29 June 2012. This novel construction technology

has been developed by CSIR-NAL and the

patenting is under process. As part of the ‘Outreach

to People of Karnataka’, this improvised traditional

water vessel was paraded during the ‘Rajyotsava

Celebrations’ at Tumkur District HQ. (Department

of Fisheries, Govt. of Karnataka) on 1 November

2012. This novel technology is being championed

and spearheaded by Dr. S. Selvarajan, Chief
