Curbside Garbage & Recycling Collection Calendar July 2019 – June 2020 What You Put in Your Recycling Matters! Whether it is a plastic strawberry container or an empty hairspray bottle, what you put in your cart matters. These materials are brought to a sorting facility that uses people and machinery to separate the different types of packaging. This means that someone may touch your recycling in order to separate plastic from paper, metals from cardboard, etc. Ensuring that everything placed in your recycling has been cleaned and is free of any food residue is important because dirty containers cannot be recycled. Taking the time to remove and rinse any food goes a long way in guaranteeing that the effort you put in to getting your recycling to the curb is not wasted. Recycling Depots Recycling Right –What’s the Big Deal?Recycling is something everyone can take pride in,as it reduces our impact on the environment bysaving resources and generating new productswith old materials. For example, the can of tomatoes you rinsed and placed in your recyclingcart will eventually be recycled into a new can, maybe for green beans.

The sorting facilities that separate the plastics, metals, and paper from one another are modernand efficient, but they have one catch – thin softplastics such as shopping bags or overwrap plugup the machinery. Placing bags, wrap or pouchesinto your recycle cart will ultimately jam up theconveyor belts and rollers of the sorting machines.By taking bags and thin, soft plastics to the bottledepot you are ensuring they are recycled properlyand are not ending up in the moving parts of themachinery.

Please review the recycle guide for more informationabout what can go into your home recycle cart.

You can recycle even more than ever! The following items are not accepted for curbside collection.
