Pilots Advance to RRAC Tourney Finals

After receiving a first-round bye in the Raising

Cane’s Red River Athletic Conference Tourna-

ment by virtue of their second place finish in the

regular season, the #2-seeded Pilots met the #3

seed, Our Lady of the Lake University, in a semi-

final contest in Texarkana on November 7. For

the second time in the past two weeks, Katie-

    Jayde Cunningham (SR/Stonewall) scored the

game-winner for the Pilots versus the Saints, giv-

ing her team a 1-0 victory and a berth in the fi-

    nals.

While the Pilots dominated the game statistically,

outshooting OLLU 28-16 in the match and 16-3 in

    shots-on-goal, Cunningham’s second half goal

was the game’s only score. Karolyn Hasler (SO/

Chandler, AZ) made stops on all three of the

Saints’ on-frame shots to preserve the shut-out.

The Pilots will face off with LSU-Alexandria in

the tourney finals after the 4th-seeded Generals

eliminated top seed St. Thomas University-

    Houston in their semifinal meeting.

LSUS Women Win RRAC Tourney, Qualify

    for Nationals!!

The LSUS Pilots continued their storybook season

on November 11 as they met LSU-Alexandria in

the finals of the Raising Canes Red River Athletic

Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament at Ea-

gle Field on the campus of Texas A.&M. Univer-

    sity-Texarkana.

Following a scoreless first half, the Pilots put two

shots into the net in the second half for a 2-0 win

and an automatic berth in the NAIA national tour-

nament with the opponent and site to be an-

nounced. The win marked the first women’s con-

ference championship in program history while

the NAIA tournament appearance with be the

third for the LSUS women as the 2005 and 2007

teams made the tourney before the program was

    suspended.

    Freshman Carolina Martins-Gomes (Governador

Valdares, Brazil) converted a penalty kick for the

first goal in the 77th minute, with Kati-Jayde Cun-

    ningham (SR/Stonewall) scoring an unassisted

goal seven minutes later to ice the victory. It was

a fitting way to win as the Pilots’ two leading

scorers led the way with Martins-Gomes posting

her 14th goal of the season while Cunningham

    scored for the 19th time.

The Pilots’ defense played a huge role in the win,

holding the Generals to just four shots in the con-

test, none of which were on-goal. By contrast, the

LSUS women took 11 shots with seven on-frame

as ‘Keeper Karolyn Hasler (SO/Chandler, AZ)

recorded her 10th clean sheet of the season.

Coach Ashley Holland, who in this writer’s opin-

ion should have been the RRAC Coach of the

Year, said following the game: “They (her team)

came into this game ready to play. Our defense

played lights out and held strong the whole time.

We are not done yet. Looking forward to the next

game.” The Pilots’ season record now stands at

    13-4-2.

    Congratulations, Pilots and coaches!!!

  • Cunningham MVP; Martins-Gomes, Has-

    ler, Richardson All-RRAC Tourney

Following the Pilots capturing the Red River

    Athletic Conference Women’s Tournament

    title Katie-Jayde Cunningham, senior forward

from Stonewall, was named the tourney’s

MVP on November 13. Cunningham scored

LSUS’ only goal in a 1-0 semifinal victory

over Our Lady of the Lake University and

added her team’s second goal in their 2-0 win

    against LSU-Alexandria in the finals.

Three of her teammates joined Cunningham

on the All-Tournament team, including mid-

    fielder Carolina Martins-Gomes (FR Governa-

dor Valdares, Brazil) who scored the first goal

in the finals on a penalty kick; defender Ma-

son Richardson (SR/Forney, TX) who played

her usual stellar game on defense while also

moving up to take seven shots in the two

matches; and goalkeeper Karolyn Hasler (SO/

Chandler, AZ) who shut out both opponents in

    the tournament.

    Congratulations, ladies!! Well done!

    #5Martin Methodist Ends Pilots’ Season

The NAIA 5th-ranked women’s soccer team,

the Martin Methodist Redhawks, put an em-

phatic end to LSUS’ season as they defeated

the Pilots 9-1 in the Opening Round of the

National Tournament in Pulaski, TN on Febru-

ary 17. The ‘Hawks scored early and often,

putting in their first goal in the 11th minute and

extending their lead to 5-0 at intermission.

While the Pilots’ concluded their season with

a record of 13-5-2, MMC improved to 19-1-1

on the year as they move on to the next round.

The Pilot’s lone goal game in the 61st minute

off the foot of Carolina Martins-Gomes (FR/

Governador Valdares, Brazil) on an assist

    from Natalie Blanco (SR/Guernsey, England).

The Redhawks totaled 23 shots in the contest

with 15 of them on-goal as LSUS goalie Ka-

rolyn Hasler (SO/Chandler, AZ) managed six

saves in the contest. The Pilots took seven

shots, four of which were on-frame.

As Coach Ashley Holland stated, “It’s never

easy losing by that much.” Let’s give credit

where credit is due, however. After LSUS

women’s soccer was reinstated to begin the

Fall 2017 season, the spring and summer of

    2017 were a real scramble—first to hire a

coach and then to find players. Predictably,

the 2017 season was a struggle as the Pilots

finished with a record of 4-10-2. For the 2018

season, RRAC coaches tabbed the Pilots to

finish near the bottom of the pack. After a

couple of starts and stops, however, the ladies

hit their stride as they entered conference play,

winning their last ten games in a row prior to

meeting MMC. That streak included winning

the RRAC Tournament and the first RRAC

    conference championship in program history.

Coach Holland went on to say it best. “We

have to hold our heads high. This team has

gone above and beyond all season. I am very

proud of every girl on this team and cannot

thank them enough for the time and effort they

put in this season.” We couldn’t agree more.

Thank you, ladies, for an exciting and wonder-

ful season, as well as for representing LSUS

    with style and class!

UST Ends Pilots’ Season in Semis The Pilots’ season came to a sudden end on November 8 in the semifinals of the Raising Canes Red River Ath-letic Conference Men’s Soccer Tour-nament in Texarkana as top-seeded LSUS fell by a 1-0 score to the Uni-versity of St. Thomas, the tourney’s fourth seed. Following their terrific season, in-cluding a 10-games winning streak in the RRAC to finish at 10-1 in the conference, the Pilots received a bye into their semifinal match-up with the Celts. After a scoreless first peri-od, STU scored in the third minute of the second half. While the Pilots out-shot the Celts 12-4 overall and 4-2 in shots-on-goal, they were unable to find the net with four saves going to the Celts’ goal-keeper. “Really difficult to put into words (as) everything comes to an (immediate) end,” said Coach Phillip Bohn. “Hats off to UST, their coaches and players.” The Pilots end the season with an overall record of 14-5.

    Pilots Open Season with Win

The LSUS women, ranked #18 in the NAIA

Preseason Women’s Basketball Poll, got the

season off on the right foot on November 9

in Waxahatchie, TX as they participated in

the SAGU Classic, winning their opening

round game by a 59-58 count over Texas

    Wesleyan University. After dropping be-

hind 18-7 at the end of the first quarter, the

Pilots rallied to get back to within two at the

half before taking a one-point lead at the end

of period number three and hanging on to

that margin until the final buzzer.

Sabrina Banks (JR/New Orleans) led the

Pilots with a game-high 15 points to go

along with seven rebounds and a game-high

five assists. She was joined in double-

figures by Shaniqua Tobias (SR/New Orle-

    ans) with 14 and Fu’tra Banks (SO/Conway,

AR) who came off the bench to contribute

11 points and five rebounds. Keiara Wil-

liams (JR/New Orleans) grabbed a game-

    high nine boards.

The Pilots outshot the Rams from the floor

(42.9% to 38.2%) and from behind the arc

    (40.9% to 25.0%) while holding a 36-35

edge in rebounding. LSUS hit only two of

nine free-throws while TWU made 11 of 19

    attempts.

    LSUS Falls to OCU

The 18th-ranked Pilots dropped their final

game in the SAGU Classic on November 10

by a score of 71-50 to the #10 Oklahoma

City University Stars as LSUS evened its

record at 1-1 while OCU improved to 3-0.

A second consecutive slow start in which

the Pilots were outscored 13-5 in the first

quarter put them in a hole from which they

were unable to recover as the Stars stretched

the lead in each succeeding period.

Sabrina Banks (JR/New Orleans) once again

led the Pilots in points scored, this time with

12 as she hit four of five shots from behind

the three-point line. As in the opening

game, Fu’tra Banks (SO/Conway, AR) pro-

vided a spark from the bench with 11 points

while Leah Silva (JR/Mont Belvieu, TX)

played all 40 minutes of the game, tossing in

    10 points.

The Pilots had shooting problems as they hit

just 27.1% of their field goals, including

nine of 30 three’s, while converting nine of

15 free-throws. The Stars dominated the

    boards, 48-29.

Pilots’ Lose on Road to Philander Smith

Once again the #18 Pilots took to the road,

this time traveling to Little Rock on Novem-

ber 12 for a meeting with Philander Smith

College, dropping a 71-64 decision to the

Panthers. The Pilots fell to 1-2, having

played all road games thus far, while PSC

    improved to 4-1.

“This wasn’t our best effort. We came out

sluggish in the second half (after leading 32-

    31 at intermission),” commented Coach

Matt Cross. “We have to get better on the

defensive boards; we gave them way too

    many second chances.”

The Pilots had three players score in double

figures as Sabrina Banks (JR/New Orleans)

put up 13 points with Keiara Williams (JR/

New Orleans) and Fu’tra Banks (SO/

Conway, AR) close behind with 12 points

    each. Sabrina recorded a double-double,

adding 15 rebounds to her line.

Neither team shot particularly well, both

hitting just above 36% from the field. Turn-

overs proved to be a factor as the Pilots gave

the ball away 20 times to 12 for the Pan-

thers. PSC held a 47-37 margin on the

    boards.

    Pilots Drop Squeaker at MUW

The Pilots traveled to Columbus, MS on

November 11 for a game versus the Missis-

sippi College for Women (which is, despite

its name, a co-educational institution), drop-

ping a 58-56 decision to the Owls. LSUS

fell to 1-3 on the young season while MUW

    improved to 4-1.

Fu’tra Banks (SO/Conway, AR) led the

Pilots in scoring with 14 points. She

was closely followed by three 13-point

    scorers in Keiara Williams (JR/New

    Orleans), Lauren Pollins (JR/ Hooks,

TX) and Shaniqua Tobias (SR/New Or-

leans). Williams and Pollins each rec-

    orded a double-double with 12 and 13

    rebounds respectively while Tobias

grabbed four boards and handed out six

    assists.

The Pilots shot 39% from the field and

just 40% (six of 10) from the free-throw

    line. The Owls out-rebounded their

guests 49-39 and forced LSUS into 17

    turnovers while committing twelve.

Fu’tra Goes Off, Pilots Win by One

If the Pilots’ game versus Tougaloo Col-

lege in Mississippi on November 20 was

a movie, most people would pass it off

as contrived. With the Pilots trailing 50-

39 after the third quarter, LSUS chipped

away at the lead but with just 40 seconds

remaining the game appeared to be lost to

just about everyone but the Pilots’ Fu’tra

Banks (SO/Conway, AR). Within that final

40 ticks, she hit a three, made one of two

free throws, connected on a two-pointer,

made another one-of-two from the foul line

before launching a game-winning three with

five seconds on the clock for a 64-63 win,

sending the LSUS bench into a wild celebra-

tion. LSUS improved to 2-2 with the win

while the Bulldogs dropped to 1-1 on the

    season.

Sabrina Banks (JR/New Orleans) and Lau-

ren Pollins (JR/Hooks, TX) led the Pilots

with 17 points each, along with eight and

    nine rebounds respectively.

    Fu’tra finished with 13 points—10 in that

fateful 40 seconds--and five rebounds while

    Shaniqua Tobias (SR/New Orleans) tossed

in 11 points and a team-leading eight assists.

The Pilots outscored TC 25-13 in the fourth

quarter and won the battle of the boards, 37-

    35.

Pilots Lose RRAC Opener to Wild-

    cats

The LSUS women traveled to Marshall, TX on Decem-

ber 7 to face Wiley College in the opening contest of

the RRAC schedule for both squads. Unfortunately, the

Pilots came out on the short end of a 67-60 score, fall-

ing to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference as the Wild-

cats improved to 3-5 and 1-0.

Neither team shot particularly well from the field as the

Pilots hit 34.4% of their shots while WC didn’t do

much better at 36.4%. LSUS went to the free throw

stripe 26 times but hit just 14 with the home team going

13 for 18. LSUS turned the ball over 17 times to 11 for

    the Wildcats.

Sabrina Banks (JR/New Orleans) led a balanced Pilots’

attack with 17 points on eight of sixteen from the field.

She was joined in double-figures by Fu’tra Banks (SO/

Conway, AR) who scored 13 and pulled down seven

rebounds; and Shaniqua Tobias (SR/New Orleans) and

Keiara Williams (JR/New Orleans) who each tossed in

11 points. Tobias added a game-high eight assists.

    LSUS Women Swamp Jarvis

The Pilots evened their RRAC record at 1-1 with a

huge win over Jarvis Christian College, 99-66, on De-

cember 8 in Marshall, TX. Improving to 3-4 overall

while JCC fell to 0-11 and0 -2, LSUS took a command-

ing 51-26 halftime lead and never looked back.

Two Pilots scored two double-doubles with Lauren

Pollins (JR/Hooks, TX) leading the way with 30 points

and a dozen rebounds. Sabrina Banks (JR/

New Orleans) added 22 points and 10 boards. Others

scoring in double digits were Fu’tra Banks (SO/

Conway, AR) with 26, Keiara Williams (JR/New Orle-

ans) tossing in 11 and Shaniqua Tobias (SR/New Orle-

ans) with 10 points and a game-leading nine assists.

Pilots Drop Pair in TWU Classic TWU 67, LSUS 65 The #7 LSUS Pilots jumped into a tough spot in the first weekend of the basketball season as they participated in The Texas Wesleyan Champions Classic, hosted by #11 TWU in Ft. Worth. In addition to the Pilots and their hosts, the two other Clas-sic teams were #1 The Master’s University (CA) and #2 LSU Alexandria with each participating team playing two games. LSUS took on the TWU Rams in the night-cap on November 1, jumping out to a 34-30 half-time lead versus their former RRAC foes. Texas Wesleyan proved to be a little too much as they outscored the Pilots 37-31 after intermission to grab the win, making TWU 1-0 on the season while the Pilots dropped to 1-1. Jeff Garrett (SR/Gadsden, AL) led the Pilots in points with 17 and was the leading re-bounder in the game with twelve. Garrett was joined in double-digit scoring by Amaad Wainwright (SR/Kansas City, MO) with 14, Josh Stamps (SR/Chicago) who dropped 11 and Rakim “Rock” Lubin (SR/Miami) who tossed in ten. TWU controlled the boards 48-29 while the Pilots outshot them from the field, 41.4% to 39.7%. The Rams held the edge in free throws, sinking 12 of 19 while the Pilots were making 8 of fourteen. The Master’s 86, LSUS 76 The next day, November 2, it was out of the frying pan and into the fire for the Pi-lots as they faced off with the NAIA’s top-ranked team, The Master’s University Mustangs from Santa Clarita, a suburb of Los Angeles. The Mustangs jumped out to an early advantage, leading by as much as 24 points in the first half before the Pilots closed the gap to 53-33 at the half. LSUS fought its way back into the game in the second half, getting the lead down to five before TMU stretched it back to a ten-point margin at the end. The Pilots were led by 16 points from Kelvin Henry, Jr. (SO/Lake Charles) with Josh Stamps (SR/Chicago) adding 13, Amaad Wainwright

(SR/Kansas City, MO) dropping 12 and “Rock” Lubin (SR/Miami) contributing 54 points and 6 rebounds. Nate Levine (FR/San Antonio) came off the bench to add nine points. The Pilots forced 25 turno-vers while committing 14 but once again lost the battle of the boards, 47-32. With ten new players this season (the rec-ord is now 1-2), it will take some time for the team to mesh but there’s a wealth of talent in this bunch. LSUS Coach Kyle Blankenship commented, “Obviously, we are disappointed in the outcomes this weekend but there are many positives we can take away from playing against two top NAIA programs. (We) showed some heart, toughness and character . . . and I am very proud of that.” LSUS Downs UT-Dallas in Champions of Character Game The Pilots played their annual Champions of Character Game at The Dock at 11:00 a.m. on November 7, this year hosting the University of Texas-Dallas, downing the Comets 77-58 to run their season record to 2-2. Each year, the Pilots invite approx-imately 800 students from area elemen-tary schools to attend a game which stresses the NAIA’s Five Core Values of Respect, Responsibility, Servant Leader-ship, Sportsmanship and Integrity with LSUS players and coaches talking to the kids about each of the values. The Pilots jumped to a 41-23 halftime lead

and coasted to the win, led by Nate Levine

(FR/San Antonio) who came off the bench

to score 17 points, including hitting five of

11 shots from beyond the three-point line.

Joining him in double-figures were Rock Lubin (SR/Miami) who tossed in 14, Kelvin

Henry, Jr. (SO/Lake Charles) adding 11 and

Jeff Garrett (SR/Gadsden, AL) with a double

-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds.

LSUS won the rebounding battle, 42-35, while shooting 44.6% from the field and 40.6% from behind the three-point arc.

  • #7 Pilots Fall to Panthers in Little Rock

LSUS dropped a game to the previously win-less Panthers of Philander Smith College on November 12 in Little Rock by a score of 59-57 after trailing 30-22 at the half. With the loss, LSUS fell to 2-3 on the season while PCS moved to 1-3. The Pilots came up two points short after outscoring the Panthers 35-29 following in-termission. “This was a tough night,” stated Coach Kyle Blankenship. “We had our oppor-tunities but just couldn’t capitalize.” Tim Coleman (SR/Cincinnati) led LSUS in scoring with 12 points, followed by Amaad Wainright (SR/Kansas City) with ten. Jeff Gar-rett (SR/Gadsden, AL) grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds. LSUS hit just 31.8% of its field goals, includ-ing three of 14 three-point attempts, turning the ball over 20 times to 13 for PSC. The Pi-lots held a 43-39 edge in rebounding. Pilots Bounce Back Versus Lyons The LSUS men hit the road again on Novem-ber 13 as they traveled to Batesville, AR for a match-up with Lyons College, coming away with a 78-69 victory to move to 3-3 on the season while the Scots’ record squared at 1-1. “This was a very good road win,” commented Coach Kyle Blankenship. “I thought our guys showed some toughness, both physically and mentally. We have a lot we can build off moving forward.” The Pilots were led in scoring by Josh Stamps (SR/Chicago) who hit six of nine three-point attempts, scoring 21 points and handing out four assists. A double-double of 20 points and a game-leading 10 rebounds was con-tributed by Jeff Garrett (SR/Gadsden, AL) who also provided four assists. Rakim Lubin (SR/Miami) added 18 points to go along with eight boards. LSUS shot 58.7 from the field and 40.3% from behind the arc, winning the battle of the boards 27-24.

Men Fall to Tougaloo The Pilots dropped one to Tougaloo College on November 20 in Touglaoo, MS as a halftime tie turned into a 91-79 victory for the Bulldogs with TC upping its record to 6-1 while LSUS dropped below .500 at 3-4. Amaad Wright (SR/Kansas City) came off the bench to lead the Pilots in scoring with 17 points, grabbing eight rebounds as well. Fourteen points came from Josh Stamps (SR/Chicago) with Jeff Garrett (SR/Gadsden, AL) contributing 13 points and five boards while Tim Coleman (SR/Cincinnati) tossed in 55 points. The ‘Dogs out-rebounded LSUS, 42-29, with both teams committing 19 turno-vers. “We just have to do a better job of competing every single possession and maxing out our effort every time we step on the floor,” com-mented Coach Kyle Blankenship. Pilots Back on Track Versus TWU The Pilots returned to The Dock for a meet-ing with Texas Wesleyan University on No-vember 21 after three consecutive road games, finding their stroke as they dominat-ed the Rams in the first half and came away with an 83-67 victory. LSUS evened its sea-son record at 4-4 while the Rams went to 5-3. “I was very pleased with our effort, especial-ly in the first half (as the Pilots led 50-31 at intermission),” stated Coach Kyle Blanken-ship. “We were locked in and showed what kind of team we can be.” LSUS shot 48.1% from the field while holding TWU to 39.7%, as the Pilots hit 34.5% of their three-point attempts to the Rams’ 21.1%. The home team dominated the boards as well, 45-27. Rakim Lubin (SR/Miami) was the game’s

leading scorer with 22 points, hitting 12 of

17 free-throw tries. He was joined in double-

digit scoring by three teammates in Josh

Stamps (SR/Chicago) with 18 points on six of

nine three’s; Jeff Garrett (SR/Gadsden, AL)

who tossed in 17 to go along with his game-

high 18 rebounds; and Tim Coleman who hit

six of seven foul shots and totaled 11 points.

LSUS Repels SUNO Comeback After leading 46-37 at the midway point and extending their lead to 18 points in the sec-ond half, the Pilots had to hold off the Knights of Southern University—New Orle-ans in the Big Easy on November 26 for a 91-85 win. The 7th-ranked Pilots improved to 5-4 on the season while SUNO dropped to 5-6. “We had a letdown late and almost let it slip away,” said Coach Kyle Blankenship, “but, fortunately, were were able to hold them off.” The Pilots’ starters all hit in double-digits for the game, led by game highs in points (25) and rebounding (14) by Jeff Garrett (SR/Gadsden, AL) who was joined by Rock Lubin (SR/Miami) with a double-double of 18 points and 10 boards. Josh Stamps (SR/Chicago) scored 18 as well, hitting four of nine three-point attempts. Amaad Wright (SR/Kansas City) put in 14 points with Tim Coleman (SR/Cincinnati) adding 54 and a game-high six assists. The Pilots hit 73.8% of their free-throws and 32% of their three-pointers while edging SUNO in rebounds, 45-43, and in turnovers, 11-14.

Pilots Take Down 11th-Ranked Dillard For the second time in two days, the Pi-lots got a road win on November 27 in New Orleans. Paired against #11 Dillard University, LSUS used a hot second half to run off with a 93-79 victory as they handed the Bleu Devils their second loss of the season. With the win, the Pilots improved to 6-4 overall while DU dropped to 7-2. “We picked up a really good road win tonight,” said Coach Kyle Blankenship. “Jeff (Garrett) and Tim (Coleman) put us on their backs and led us to a much-needed victory.” Garrett (SR/Gadsden, AL) had a great night as he was the game’s leading scor-er with 30 points and tied for the lead in

Pilots Fall at Wiley in RRAC Debut The #22 Pilots drew a tough opener for the RRAC season as they traveled to Marshall, TX on December 7 to face perennial rival #13 Wiley College on the Wildcats’ campus, a site which has been less than hospitable over the years. Unfortunately, LSUS came out on the short end of a 103-90 score as WC put a stop to the visitors’ four-game winning streak. LSUS fell

to 7-5 for the season and 0-1 in the confer-ence while the Wildcats improved to 8-4 and 1-0. “We came our extremely flat to start both halves,” commented Coach Kyle Blankenship, “and, ultimately, that was the difference in the ballgame.” Although the Pilots picked it up in the first half to enter half-time with 54% shooting from the field, their second half inefficiency dropped their overall rate to 39.7% with Wiley shooting 58.1% for the game. Wiley also won the battle of the boards, 49-36. The Pilots were led by Jeff Garrett (SR/Gadsden, AL) who dropped in 19 points while snagging eight rebounds. Tim Cole-man (SR/Cincinnati) came off the bench to add 18 points and hand out six assists while making three steals. Fifteen points were added to the Pilots’ total by Rakim Lubin (SR/Miami) with Nate Levine (FR/San Anto-nio) tossing in 10 points. LSUS Tops Jarvis on the Road The Pilots picked up a conference road win in Hawkins, TX on December 8 as they downed Jarvis Christian College by a count of 91-81. The win improved LSUS’ records to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in the RRAC while the Bull-dogs dropped to 3-5 and 1-1. Tim Coleman (SR, Cincinnati) led the way with 23 points, aided by Amaad Wainwright (SR/Kansas City, MO) with 16 points and a game-high five assists. Also posting double-digit scoring were Josh Stamps (SR/Chicago) with 14 and Tay Hardy (JR/Natchitoches) adding eleven. Jeff Garrett (SR/Gadsden, AL) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. The Pilots hit 52.5% of the field-goal at-tempts to 37.7% for JCC, also winning the battle of the boards, 38-26.

    Merry Christmas Pilot Fans,

As another year comes to a close it leaves me wondering first, where did the time go, but more importantly

how lucky I am to be sitting in this chair, at this school, working with such great people. Our coaches bring it

every single day and our student-athletes make me proud to put on purple and gold every day.

I want to also take a minute to recognize the incredible success that our two soccer programs had this year.

Men won the first ever Regular Season Championship and the women won the first ever Tournament Championship! Women also

qualified for the National Tournament and placed Kati-Jayde Cunningham on the All-American team as the first ever to be honored

from the women’s program. The men also placed two on the first ever All-American team, Gui Martins and Danny Meza. Congratula-

    tions to all three!

Our home Conference basketball games start this week and the teams have found their groove, the momentum is really starting to

build. We all know it isn’t how you start, but how you finish, and it looks to be the beginning of an impressive finish. Let me just

throw a stat line at you from the other night….Jeff Garrett had 21 points, 22 rebounds, 6 blocks, and 5 steals. Think about that for a

minute….wow! This is what you can look forward to if you come enjoy a game.

This is also the time of the year to think about giving back, and our programs are out doing just that. Baseball has been ringing bells for

the Salvation Army and our men’s and women’s basketball teams will be visited the children’s hospital this week to spread some

cheer. Please consider giving back to the student-athlete experience and helping our own.

I’m not sure if you have seen them, but we have some awesome River Monster socks for purchase. For just $10 they make great stock-

ing stuffers! All proceeds go back to our student-athletes. Sorry, had to plug those!

From a facilities standpoint we also have a large project in the works, I can’t say what it is quite yet, but it will be a largest project to

    date. Stay tuned……

I can’t wait to see you all out at games, and as always…..It’s a great day to be a Pilot!

    AnchorUp,

    Lucas Morgan
