– The Steep-slope specialists

Durbach’s topography means that wine is grown almost exclusively on steep- slopes with gradients of 70 to 80 per cent. Premium-quality wines with high

Oechsle values combined with high extract content are the fruit and bounty of our year-round labours. Due to the favourable climate, our sun-drenched slopes

have their own unique, outstanding characteristics, the evidence of which we see time and again each year.

So is it the unique natural conditions of the vineyards that make the Durbach wines so special, or their versatility? Or could it be down to our tireless pursuit to always get the best from each vintage? Most likely it’s a combination of all of

these. What counts is that we offer a wide range of excellent specialist wines and sparkling wines from the Durbach region.

Steep-slope viticulture

The Durbach cooperative cellar:

More than eight decades of wine-growing experience, the best steep-

slopes on our land, the finest grape varieties such as Klingelberger (Riesling),

Clevner (Traminer), Pinot Noir and its Weissherbst variety and Pinot Gris,

for which we regularly receive the highest commendations.

We are fully aware of the potential of our outstanding steep-slopes, which is why we strive to bring to perfection each of their unique characteristics

with suitably sophisticated winemaking methods. The result is a wide range of superior wines with different tastes from a large variety of grapes, offering any wine lover the

chance to discover something new. And the choice is by no means limited to the characteristic local Klingelberger (Riesling) wine. To give you a better overview

of our products, we’ve grouped them separately below.

Our vines grow and ripen on steep, rocky, residual granite soil. Steep-slopes are labour-intensive and require manual processing

and picking. They produce low yields of the highest quality, which is developed to its full potential using traditional yet

progressive viniculture.

Looking down from above on a golden Durbach and its patchwork of sunny slopes, it quickly becomes apparent why everything has

revolved around wine here since the fourteenth century. Throughout their history, the wines of Ölberg, Plauelrain, Kochberg and Stein-berg have displayed their own unique outstanding character that

can be found nowhere else but here.

Just as the name ‘Klassik’ suggests, all of the classic Durbach grape varieties from diffe-rent vineyard sites and with varying degrees of flavour are represented. Whatever the occasion, every wine lover will find the right wine here.

Here in Durbach we are pleased with the special climate and working in harmony with

nature. But to be honest, just as important to us are the convi viality and the satisfaction of the

people who enjoy our wines.

Tastes differ and all wine drinkers develop their own personal tastes over time. Some

prefer light, mild white wines and others full-bodied, extremely dry red wines aged in barrels for a long time. Between the two extremes are

all manner of variations.

No matter if you’re a wine novice or already a connoisseur, the fascination of wine also lives from discussing it with like-minded people and regularly trying out new wines. It is this that

stimulates the senses for our own taste in wine and our ability to enjoy it.

Enjoyment is nature’s test, the sign of approval

The Diamant – a wine produced from the year’s best quality grapes and bottled in limited quantities in individually

numbered bottles. It originates from sites on the steep-slopes of our Durbach vineyards specially selected by our vintner. A specific,

quality-en hanc -ing method of cultivation is required. At an early stage when the young wines are tasted, external and internal expert juries select the qualitative best from the pre mium and

superior grade wines, whether white or red.

Steinberg

durbacher Edelsüße

The Steinberg is characterised by its extreme steepness (and here in Durbach, we know what we’re talking about) as well as the favourable climate of the south-facing slopes. This means high levels of sunshine well above the average. The soil

conditions of these steep-slopes ensure that the warmth is stored here for a long time,

similar to a heated stove.

in addition, low yields promote the high quality.

In 2011 our selection of sweet wines was voted Germany’s ‘best sweet wine selection’ at the DLG

national German wine awards!

Sweet wines often mean the most work for our vintners – and not only in the vineyards – so this award fills them with pride more than any other. You should

try these exquisite Durbach wines – a guaran te ed, incomparable taste experience awaits you!

our sparkling wine specialitiesWhether modern or traditional fermentation methods

are used, both methods of producing sparkling wine guarantee the best quality if the base wines already offer optimal conditions. Our authentic sparkling wines from the Plauelrain and Kochberg

therefore packed with sunshine. Durbacher sparkling wines – recommended for any time, but above all for those special occasions and celebrations.

enjoy celebrations as they come...

To enjoy a glass of sparkling wine is to know that a very special moment is upon us. A new year, wedding, birthday and christening are all accompanied by a glass of quality

sparkling wine as a part of our drinking culture. But one can always find a reason to celebrate!

Sekt

durbach not only has a tradition of wine-growing, but also of fruit-growing.

And this is why we also produce delicious brandies made from local fruit. Connoisseurs also appreciate

Durbacher Marc produced from Riesling or Traminer grapes as a digestif. And those who like something a

little less strong will most certainly enjoy our liqueurs.

For example:

durbacher wine jelly

our tip for gourmets

Wine jelly is already a staple in professional kitchens. It enhances sauces, dressings and dips and adds a

deliciously fine touch to meat, roasts, cakes or desserts. The combination of wine and sweetness helps the fla-vours to develop and stimulates the palate. Of course,

wine jelly tastes just as good for breakfast with fresh bread, rolls, butter or cream cheese.
