What’s insid? A big wlcom from Curious Minds

to this brochur dsignd for schools

and ducational sttings across th

North Wst. It profils som basic

information about arts and cultur

organisations that hav bn fundd

by Arts Council England until 2015.

Ths organisations ar rfrrd to

as NPO’s (National Portfolio Organisations)

or MPM’s (Major Partnr Musums).

It’s just a tastr of th information

that will b availabl through th

Cultur Hub onlin portal.

Who ar Curious Minds and what isa Bridg Organisation?

Curious Minds is a Charity based in Burnley and previously responsible fordelivering Creative Partnerships. Curious Minds is now part of a nationalnetwork of ten Bridge organisations funded by Arts Council England to connectchildren and young people with great art and culture. One of our key roles isto help schools and other educational settings identify and access quality artsopportunities for children and young people and to support schools in connectingwith as many arts and cultural organisations in the North West as possible.

Our regional consultation, carried out earlier this year with over 450 stakeholders, showed that school leaders feel as strongly as ever that arts and cultural learningshould be at the heart of the educational offer but are finding it difficult to bringthe time, resources and skills together to create a varied quality offer for childrenand young people. That’s where we come in!

As a Bridge organisation we can support you and your school in a range of ways:

whether that’s finding a new arts organisation to work with or to enhance your Artsmark application. We could support with developing a funding bid or mappingout a young person’s Arts Award journey.

We know that the arts bring intrinsic benefits and raise confidence, self-esteemand offer a powerful outlet for positive energy. We know that the arts can be anexcellent vehicle for communicating messages and bringing the curriculum to life.

Introduction toCultur Hubs

Arts Award What is Artsmark? How ls can CuriousMinds support schools?

We want to make sure that schools know what’s availablelocally, what performances or exhibitions they could

visit, what creative resources they could bring into theclassroom, where they could find great CPD for teachersled by professional artists and how they can help their

students connect with culture.

This publication aims to give you a small taster of the rich artsand cultural offer available for schools in the North West. We’veused it to signpost those organisations that the Arts Council hasfunded (they refer to these organisations as National PortfolioOrganisations or NPO’s) but we know there are hundreds morearts organisations and other cultural settings so we’re going touse the online Culture Hub to signpost these too. The new Culture Hub will give much more information aboutthe organisations featured in this brochure and will also includemany more community arts organisations, museums, galleries, libraries and the newly formed Music Hubs. The Culture Hubs portal will go live in September 2013 and

schools can make sure they’re first to sign up by visitingwww.culturehubs.co.uk or emailing [email protected]

Do you realise that by engaging with any of the organisationsfeatured in this brochure, your students could be working

towards achieving an Arts Award, and your school or educationalorganisation could be well on its way to achieving Artsmark?

What is Arts Award? Arts Award offers nationally recognised qualifications that supportchildren and young people (aged 7* to 25) to develop as artistsand arts leaders. The award has a strong focus on inspiring youngpeople to enjoy the arts - encouraging students to participate inarts activities, create their own work and share their experienceswith others. As well as recognising artistic achievement, Arts Awardhelps students to develop their creativity, communication andleadership skills. The flexible framework can be used to supportcurriculum activity or to structure enrichment programmes andtargeted interventions.

The award has 5 levels: Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold.Discover is an introductory level. The other 4 levels are accreditedon the Qualifications and Credit Framework at Entry Level 3 and

Levels 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Gold carries 35 UCAS points.* Arts Award Discover will become available to ages 5 and 6 in autumn 2013

Arts Award is managed by Trinity College London in associationwith Arts Council England and 10 regional Bridge organisations todrive participation.

To find out more about Arts Award visit www.artsaward.org.uk orcontact Curious Minds to discuss your needs.Call 01282 435835 or email [email protected]

Artsmark is a national programme for schools, furthereducation colleges and youth justice settings. It helps

educational settings to:• recognise experiences of high quality art and

culture;• measure the impact of the arts on attainment,

achievement, health and wellbeing;• strengthen and celebrate their arts and cultural

offer.

There are two award distinctions: Artsmark and ArtsmarkGold. Educational settings apply for Artsmark via an online,two-part application process. Part one assesses evidence ofthe quantity and type of arts you offer. Part two assesses thequality of your arts programmes and partnerships. Artsmark helps educational settings to evaluate theirrelationships with arts professionals. It also helps t hem toexplore how effectively the arts are in helping them makecross-curricular links that support and enrich learning:

Curious Minds offers a range of support to help your school

achieve Artsmark including 1-1 application support sessions,CPD and arts partners development.

For more information visit:www.curiousminds.org.ukwww.artsmark.org.uk

Our team has expertise in both education and cultural sectorsand can consult with you on your school’s aims; strategically or

practically in the classroom.

Curious Minds can:• provide an impartial and external perspective on

your school as a critical friend• broker safe, appropriate and lasting partnerships

with top level educationalists and creativepractitioners

• make links on your behalf with other schools(regionally, nationally or internationally)

• link you to cutting edge teaching practice andnew technologies

• celebrate your achievements across our regionaland national networks.
