The Côte-des-Neiges and Notre-Dame-de-Grâces maisons de la culture offer a large selection of free shows and exhibits thanks to, among others, the financial support of the Conseil des arts de Montréal en tournée and the Agreement on the cultural development of Montréal, between Quebec’s Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine and Ville de Montréal.

Each year, various mediation projects enable us to offer the public a unique encounter with arts and culture. This year, families from the Centre de Services Préventifs à l’Enfance and students from the Côte-des-Neiges francization schools will be attending Trois fois passera and Les Rencontres culturelles à Côte-des-Neiges, while families and schools from Notre-Dame-de-Grâce will be invited to workshops presented as part of the exhibit Abris de rêveries by visual artist Marie-pierre normand.

During 2011, several artists and companies have benefited from creation residencies, with or without the assistance of partners. Companies Sacré Tympan and Tenon Mortaise, as well as John Boyle-Singfield, p. Duchesne and etienne Boulanger from the Le Lobe center for artists in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean have been offered a residency at the Côte-des-Neiges maison de la culture, while dance company k par k, the Blitz D’axes image theatre, the Théâtre de la Feintise, the contemporary dance choreographer isabel Mohn as well as the company Le Moulin à musique have been offered a residency at the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce maison de la culture.

Over the last fifteen years, the De la cour à la scène Cultural Committee has brought local children in contact with culture, in collaboration with the borough’s maisons de la culture, Maison Théâtre and Segal Centre. This year, 7,000 children from 14 elementary schools in the borough will be attending the following shows: L’atelier (contemporary dance and plastic arts) by the Bouge de là company, Wigwam (theatre) by the Théâtre des confettis (Québec) and Le grand voyage de petit rocher (theatre) by La Vieille 17 (Ottawa). A collaboration with the national Film Board of Canada (NFB) will allow us to present high-quality animated films to preschoolers and kindergartners.

The artist swaps the traditional roles of image and sound to better study their relationship. To on-lookers, photography is the luminous imprint that captures a split-second moment conveying the very essence of an era. Steve Bates explores memories and their counterpoint, when recollection presses against the weight of time.

The Travailler sous pression exhibit organized by Ateliers Graff is the result of an ambi-tious production where six artists worked in residence over a period of three months. The exhibit focuses on a singular yet very significant aspect of printed art: the moment of transfer by pressure. From November 10, 2011 to February 12, 2012 installations

abris de rêveries Artist Marie-pierre normand works with media of everyday life. In response to the present ecological disaster, the artist creates pieces that give a second life to otherwise worthless refuse. The installation features a scale model of human dimensions using drawings, collage and sculptures. Because this project is a creation residency, the installation will be changing over the duration of the exhibit.
