North East Thames Board Representative to Council - Election Two candidates are standing for election as North East Thames Board representative to Council. Board representatives serve the needs of all members, not only those in their own region, so details of their experience and policy are given here. Ballot papers have already been sent out to those eligible to vote in this election. BUDDS, DIANA GradDipPhys MCSP. CSP reg no 42908. Superintendent Physiotherapist, Whipps Cross Hospital. I qualified from the Middlesex Hospital School of Physiotherapy in 1984. I worked at St Bartholomew’s Hospital for 2% years and in January 1987 joined the staff at Whipps Cross Hospital as a senior II in out- patients. I am currently superintendent IV in charge of the out-patients department. Out of the 45 Council members now in office there are very few graded superintendent 111 and below. Therefore, I have decided to stand for election to Council as a practising clinician in order to represent more fully the views of similar graded physiotherapists who are the majority of the profession. I have been a CSP steward for the last four years and have enjoyed representing the views of the membership and disseminating accurate information to all local staff. I would employ these skills over the whole region to provide a direct two-way link between the membership and Council. I hope more junior staff would find it easier to approach a Council member of a similar grade. The forthcoming innovatory Representa- tives Conference provides a more open forum for discussions of a wide range of issues. Conference might inform the parts that Congress doesn‘t reach! This can only be of benefit to the Society and to individual physiotherapists. I feel it is important that Council supports the establishment of an Annual Conference. The Government White Paper has posed a new threat to both the NHS and the profession. There is a need for people inside and outside the profession to be fully informed of the effects which will ensue if the White Paper becomes law in its present form. In the light of this I feel we must raise public awareness of the value of Chartered physiotherapists. My alternate is Claire Strickland who is superintendent Ill in neurology at The London Hospital. ENGSTROM. BARBARA MCSP. CSP reg no 32110. Superintendent I, University College Hospital and the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital. Training: The London School of Physiotherapy (1968-71). Employment: Physiotherapist, Southmead Hospital, Bristol 11972-73), Warwick Hospital (1973-74). Out of the 45 Council members now in off ice there are very few graded superintendent 111 and below.
