Introduction

In this module, students are assigned to conduct a community service

project with the guidance from the lecturer, Ms Tay Shir Men. We had chosen

Zoo Negara as the site to carry out the community service. There are total of 41

students participate in this activity. We are required to do a report and few

students are chosen to conduct an oral presentation on week 10.

Zoo Negara is the first national zoo in Malaysia. Built on 110 acres of land

in Ulu Klang, near Taman Melawati, North-East Kuala Lumpur. It was officially

opened on 14 November 1963, a project initiated by Malaysia’s first Prime

Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman. Managed by a non-governmental organization

known as the Malaysian Zoological Society, Zoo Negara is a veteran in the zoo

industry standing proudly for 52 years.

Once set in virgin jungle, the place now stands like an oasis amidst a

concrete jungle. It emphasizes on four main areas: Conservation, Education,

Research, and Recreation. Zoo Negara is a popular family destination and a

valuable resource for all visitors from within Malaysia and overseas.

Personal Reflection

As a university student, I am grateful that I had the opportunity to

participate in this community service. This activity is meaningful and even

though we were assigned with some tough works in the zoo, I can feel the joy of

doing these little things together with my course mates. Another thing to mention

is that I was so happy to see the two precious pandas in the zoo. They are so cute!

I would sincerely want to thank our lecturer, Ms Tay Sir Men for all the

guidance throughout this module. Furthermore, all the planning and preparation

works done by our committee team was much appreciated. Be it working as a

team in such a big group together, the leaders need to have patience and

understanding. We were glad that the event went out almost perfectly.

Overall, we enjoy this community service as it provides us the chance to

raise awareness in protecting animals. This event was not merely for assignment

purpose after all, it has been a momentous experience for all of us.
