Nomadic MuseumDesigned by well-known Japanesearchitect Shigeru Ban, the NomadicMuseum is the permanent home for theart exhibition “Ashes and Snow,” byGregory Colbert. Built from 152 stackedshipping containers, the building formsa central walkway for viewing theartwork, suspended on either side.

The exhibit will be located on the SantaMonica Pier, having previously openedin Venice, and then in the first NomadicMuseum at Pier 54 on the Hudson River.Truly “nomadic,” the museum wasdesigned to be disassembled andreconfigured to house the travelingexhibit. The shipping containers notonly make up the building module, butevoke the voyage of “Ashes and Snow”as it moves from location to location(the exhibit has no final destination.)
