‘One of the most exciting and beautiful galleries in the United Kingdom’— Sir Nicolas Serota, Director of Tate
As the birthplace of Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore, two of the most important artists of the 20th century, the Wakefield district is the home of modern British sculpture. The Hepworth Wakefield reflects this standard of excellence in all that we do. Our spectacular galleries and well-designed public spaces offer versatile and attractive entertaining and meeting venues. We are ideally placed for easy access by car via the M1 and M62 motorways, and by train – our mainline station means that we are a short two-hour trip from London.
The Hepworth Wakefield is the UK’s major new art gallery located in the heart of Yorkshire on the River Calder in Wakefield’s Waterfront district.
With 5000 m2 of space, The Hepworth offers the newest and most dramatic venue in the region. Designed by the acclaimed David Chipperfield Architects – winners of the Stirling Prize – The Hepworth Wakefield is architecture on a grand scale as one of the largest and finest galleries outside London. Our stunning galleries and public spaces combine dramatic design, world-class exhibitions and state of the art facilities, making The Hepworth Wakefield an ideal location for the event planner looking to convey a sense of prestige, modernity and occasion.
