Creating your Essential Elements Interactive account 1. Go to www.essentialelementsinteractive.com 2. Click on “Students” 3. Click on “Create an Account” 4. Type in our school code: allenorchestra. Click “Enter”. 5. Type in your student ID number. Click “Enter”. 6. Check the two boxes next to “I have my own Personal Copy of an Essential Elements Book for my instrument” and “I have read and agree to the Terms of Agreement and Privacy Statement for using Essential Elements Interactive.” 7. Enter your student activation code from the very first page of your book. Click “Continue” 8. Create your own username and password. Please write down your login information so you can continue to use this program. Navigating Essential Elements Interactive Anytime you need to get back to the homepage, click the logo on the top left of the page. Assignments: You will be assigned two exercises from the book per week. Through this website, you will record yourself playing the songs and submit them to your teacher. Your assignments will be listed under “My Assignments”. The due date will be next to the assignment in red. To submit an assignment: 1. Click on the assignment. 2. Click on the name of the assignment again in gray. 3. Learn and practice the song by choosing an accompaniment where it says “accomp”. To play the music press the play button. Some ideas for practicing include listening to the recording without playing along, counting the rhythm aloud, saying note names aloud, pizzicato, and any other practice techniques we have learned in class. There is also a “SLOW” button you can turn on to slow the tempo down when learning. 4. When you are ready to record your assignment, click “Accomp” and remove the checkmark next to “Melody” so that we can hear you play more clearly. Make sure to turn off the “SLOW” button if you had turned it on. 5. Press the red circle to start the recording. 6. Once you have finished recording, it will appear below the music as “Take 1”. Listen back to it to decide if you are happy with the recording. If you are not, you can record as many times as you would like. 7. When you have a recording you are ready to submit, save that take. 8. On the menu on the left of the page, click “SAVED RECORDINGS”. You should see the recording you just saved. 9. Click “My Comments”. Link it to the correct assignment. 10. Type in one thing you did well on this assignment and one thing you would like to improve. Press “Save”. 11. The final step is to submit your recording by pressing “Submit”. Once it has been submitted, it will say “Submitted”. Music Studio: You can practice any song from the book with the accompaniment of your choice through the Music Studio. Once you are in the Music Studio, click “VIEW SONGLIST” on the left-side menu. This will allow you to choose any song you would like to practice. Feel free to choose different accompaniment styles and use the “SLOW” button.
