CPICH Optimization Drivers
• Deployment of CPICH optimization is driven by:
– Improving current 3G coverage and increase 3G traffic
– Improve in-building penetration for 3G
– Reduce IRAT HO to 2G
– Offload traffic from 2G layer

Technical Background
To expand current 3G network coverage, the CPICH power was increase on all
sites by 1.7dBm, hence the RBS will be using 10% of the total MCPA power
instead of 6.7% previously.
To avoid power limitation, admission for power was also increased by 4%.

Deployment Area
3G Sites
Malaysia
Penang Island
CPICH power was increased (22/06/2011) in Penang Island where it has a dense
urban topology with a mixture of high rise buildings, condominiums, residential
and factory areas.

Performance - CSSR
• Speech & PS CSSR is maintained
![Page 7: CPICH Optimization](https://reader033.fdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022050804/548025045806b5e55e8b4979/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Performance – Retainability
• Speech DCR is maintained
![Page 8: CPICH Optimization](https://reader033.fdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022050804/548025045806b5e55e8b4979/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Traffic – Speech Erlang
• ~10% increase in total speech Erlang,
![Page 9: CPICH Optimization](https://reader033.fdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022050804/548025045806b5e55e8b4979/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Traffic - Data
• Slight increase in overall PS traffic ~8 %
• Slight degradation in HSDPA throughput ~6 %
![Page 10: CPICH Optimization](https://reader033.fdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022050804/548025045806b5e55e8b4979/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Traffic - IRAT
• IRAT HO Activity has reduced by 2% as more deep indoor users
can be served by 3G network
• Slight increase in IRAT HO Success Rate
![Page 11: CPICH Optimization](https://reader033.fdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022050804/548025045806b5e55e8b4979/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Capacity – Admission Failures
• Increase in admission failures due to Power, Channel Element
![Page 12: CPICH Optimization](https://reader033.fdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022050804/548025045806b5e55e8b4979/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)

CPICH Optimization - Summary
.
• Significant increase in 3G Traffic
- Speech Erlang increased by 10%
- Data Traffic increased by 8%
• Decrease in IRAT HO Activity
- 2% decrease in IRAT HO Activity
- In lower CPICH setting, possible of areas where 3G coverage was
poor hence IRAT HO was required.
- With higher CPICH power setting hence enhance coverage, UE will be served
by 3G network and avoid IRAT HO to GSM network
• CSSR, DCR, HO SR KPI are maintained.
• Power & Channel Element utilization increased 10% and 8% respectively
• Slight degradation in HS Throughput by 6%
