Counting Money and Making Change

To determine the amount of money you have, you must add all of the coins together to find the total amount.
Ex.
10 + 10 + 5 + 1 = 26 cents
Making Change• If you pay more for an object than it costs, you will get back
change.
• Change- The difference in money between the cost of the item and the money you have.
• Ex. A soccer ball costs 11 cents. You give the cashier a dime and a nickel. How many cent(s) will you get back?
Dime (10 cents) + nickel (5 cents) = 15 cents
15 cents- 11 cents= 4 cents
