Safer, brighter environments
World leading energy efficiency
Reduced maintenance
Adelaide City
Council Case Study
Adelaide City Council has over the past
few years invested into trialling and
evaluating various LED technologies to
help reduce energy use and carbon
emissions. LUCID Consulting Australia have
provided specialist technical expertise and
design support in the evaluation phases
of choosing the best luminaires available
and their suitability in replacing existing
public lighting technologies. As a result the
‘Go Green with Public Lighting’ strategy has
been endorsed by Council and the results
are delivering real world energy savings
and the realisation of sustainability goals
now and for the future.
Advanced Lighting Technologies Australia
supplied The Cree Edge™ Area Round Post
Top ‘Spiders’ for a city wide roll-out
of public lighting.
The Go Green with Public Lighting program
has seen over 700 of Adelaide public lights
changed over to Cree® LED technology
over the last 6 months. The sustainability
achievements of the program have been
far reaching and very well received,
having reduced energy emissions by
approximately 50%, increased public
safety through better lighting performance,
lighting quality and light levels, and
reduced maintenance requirements
through the longer lamp life.
One of the six outcomes in the City of
Adelaide Strategic Plan 2012/16 is to be
an environmentally sustainable City and
contains strategies to reduce carbon
emissions and oil dependency. The
Council endorsed Energy Management
Action Plan 2011/14 has set a target to
reduce energy use by 15% by 2014/15
based on 2009/10 levels and pursue zero
net carbon emissions by 2020. A strategy
within the Energy Management Action
Plan to assist with achieving this goal is
the Go Green with Public Lighting project.
The CREE Edge™ Area Round Post Top
ittings supplied by Advanced Lighting
Technologies Australia have been used
widely throughout the city, ranging from
parks and open spaces, city pathways,
squares, plazas, laneways and local roads.
The ability of CREE’s BetaLED technology
allows for the same itting to achieve
multiple lighting competencies through
its modular LED light engine design, and
ability to select various drive current
settings to vary light output.
Because of the pre-existing infrastructure,
a one for one retroit was required. CREE’s
modular system approach meant a perfect
it could be found maximising energy
savings, whilst improving lighting results.
The majority of the new CREE Edge™
Area Round systems consume 47 watts,
replacing 80W Mercury Vapour, 100W Metal
Halide, & 125W Mercury Vapour lamps.
Not only are the energy savings being
realised, increased light levels are achieved
on the pathways and traficked areas.
The patented LED NanoOptic® system
ensures the generated light from the LED
lamp sources is directed down wards,
eliminating upward light pollution and spill
light. Along with the clear beneits delivered
to areas such as the River Torrens pathways
as pictured, the Cree® LED lamps have a
signiicantly higher life resulting in lower
maintenance costs.
Advanced Lighting Technologies are
one of Australia’s leading commercial
and industrial speciication lighting
solution providers and the Asia Paciic
authorized distributors for Cree® outdoor
luminaires, and have a long and successful
partnership with Cree® over twenty years.
Cree® are the world leaders in LED lighting.
The Cree Edge™ Area Round used in the
Adelaide City Council River Torrens is
an architectural luminaire and ideal for
illuminating any open-space application
including pathways, streets, parks, and car
parks. With a low-proile modular design, this
aesthetically-pleasing luminaire provides
improved illumination performance while
reducing energy consumption.

Our round design option is ideal for illuminating a variety of applications for pedestrians
and motorists including pathways, parks and parking lots.
A greener choice for public lighting
The CREE Edge™ Area Round delivers energy
reductions of between 35% – 65% for Adelaide
public lighting applications.
THE EDGE architectural area round luminaires
are ideal for illuminating any open-space
application including pathways, parks and
parking lots.
The XSP Series is made possible by innovation in every aspect of the product to deliver
outstanding illumination, lasting performance and optimum energy eficiency.
• Energy eficient
• Long life
• Minimal servicing
• Utilizes betaLED technology
• NanoOptic® Precision Delivery Grid™ optic
• CRI: minimum 70 CRI
• CCT: 4000k (+/- 300k), 5700k (+/- 500k)
The best alternative totraditional street lighting
XSP Series
Designed from the bottom up as a totally
optimised LED street light system, the XSP
Series delivers incredible eficiency of up to
100 lumens per watt and up to double the
lumens per dollar of previous generations
of LED street lights without sacriicing
application performance. Featuring three
variations- XSP1, XSP2 and XSP2L, the XSP
series is an ideal replacement for outdated
high pressure sodium ixtures and can even
provide increased value to displace higher
wattage applications (up to 400W).
Beyond substantial energy savings (nearly
50%) and reduced maintenance, Cree®
achieves better optical control with our
NanoOptic® Precision Delivery Grid™ optic
than a traditional high pressure sodium.
The XSP series also features the same
aesthetics as a traditional cobrahead
luminaire making it easier to upgrade
incumbent technologies for both
replacement and new construction
applications. The Cree® XSP Series LED
Street Light is the best alternative for
traditional street lighting with better
payback, better performance and
better price.
All of this adds up to a street light that pays
for itself, then starts paying you – allowing
municipalities to focus their resources
where it matters most.
New Precision Delivery
Grid Optics
A NanoOptic® Precision Delivery Grid™
optic eficiently delivers light where you
need it, not where you don’t. Cree®
innovation in LED and optic technologies
created a 15% improvement in overall
optical eficiency compared to previous
generations of Cree® LED street lights.
Communities appear cleaner and safer
with uniform, white light.
Setting a new bar for price and performance.
Extended life rating without
the need for maintenance.
LEDway
Engineered for energy eficiency and
environmental sustainability, LEDway is a
versatile, high-performance street lighting
solution designed speciically for street
and roadway applications.
Cree® continues to raise the bar on
performance and lower the total cost
of ownership delivering higher value to
municipalities and facility managers.
LEDway can be optimised for both new
construction and upgrades lowering both
initial cost and overall lifetime cost.
LEDway streetlights are built to the exact
standards required by your application.
With more than 20 optical distributions,
lexible drive currents, numerous optional
features, and the option to choose from up
to 120 LEDs in 10 LED increments, we offer

LEDway
SLM
With more available options, the LEDway
SLM IP66, an IP66 rated version of the
LEDway SLM, can be mounted to a vertical
or horizontal tenon for increased lexibility.
Product options include an occupancy
sensor, dimming capabilities and painted
extrusion.
LEDway SLM IP66 are sleek, low proile LED
luminaires designed to replace existing
traditional cobrahead systems along
residential streets.
Both products incorporate scalable light
modules designed to replace 70W – 250W
high-pressure sodium cobraheads and
feature NanoOptic® product technology
to deliver industry leading target lighting
performance.
The limitations of a luminaire should
not dictate the success of your street
lighting project. LEDway streetlights are
available in a variety of optical and
power conigurations allowing for precise
balancing of illumination and economic
performance.
Energy savings from LEDway streetlights,
for typical street lighting applications,
is generally 30% – 70% compared to
traditional HID systems. Networked or
non-networked lighting controls can
be added to further enhance overall
energy savings.
A low proile LED street light
LED streetlights reduce the amount of energy used and ultimately help to reduce the
carbon footprint of your municipality.
