Friday morning four Corvettes drove their owners north on 101, joining in were

a Machine Silver 2004, a Velocity Yellow 2008, a Cyber Gray 2009, and a Blade Silver 2009. The brave early morning CCSB people joining the fun were Thore

Edgren, Lee & Claudia Whitney, Fred & Anne Lopez and Bob & Inge

Stallings.

We were in sunshine on our drive to Montana de Oro State Park for a short walk on a nice rocky beach (it was noted that a couple of the beach rocks left the

ocean to ride in new Corvettes). The charming old town of Harmony was full of 1869 atmosphere, free fresh local apples, a glass blower and a pottery shop.

We visited and tasted at the Harmony Winery on the hill above the old dairy

town that has 18 official residents. In April 2008 the old 1915 Post Office closed down, one of the oldest in the state.

We enjoyed a casual lunch and walk in the charming little town of Cambria and then off to Moonstone Beach before heading for a special Hearst Castle evening

tour (also known as “the Castle on the hill” or “the Ranch” by Hearst himself).

We timed it just right for a golden sunset over the blue Neptune’s Pool. A “9pm Dessert” per the schedule required the Silver Blond leader to negotiate with the

restaurant to let us in after their 9pm closing … the berries and ice cream were all the sweeter without a pink hat.

Saturday we had a FUN but a little foggy day run to the north up Highway 1,

visiting the beautiful 1770 Carmel Mission and gardens before stopping for lunch

over looking the still foggy coast at the Rocky Point Restaurant. California Con-dors … four big Condors were sitting on a fence along the highway … and yes,

we stopped to take pictures. Later stopping at the Peidras Blancas Northern Elephant Seal Rookery we looked at sleeping and ’posturing’ young male seals

on the sand.

Sunset Dinner was just a walk from the FogCatcher Inn on the outdoor patio … well it was without the sun or the sunset.

Sunday returning via many other back roads not yet visited in the hills behind

the old Pozo Saloon that was an 1858 stage coach stop, Willie was not there, but

a mellow group “3 gals and a guy“, the Pozo Martinis were refreshing … one was the limit with the hamburgers.

Two major mile stones were reached and celebrated on this tour: the Cyber

Gray reached the 500 mile mark and the Blade Silver reached the 1,000 mile mark.

As always … it is all about the cars and the drivers AND the back roads

with CURVES. PS: Although 13 cars originally signed-up only 4 cars were brave enough for the

FUNtastic run thru the back roads of the Central Coast of CA. Of our total 580 mile run only 163 miles were on freeways. Do not be left out next time.

CCSB PARTICIPATES IN SANTA BARBARA HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING

Once again this year members of the CCSB participated in the Santa Barbara High School homecoming on Friday night October 3rd. Mem-bers: Jacques Bellesiles, Dan Burro, Roger Hoyt, Jerry Livers, Bobb Massett & Gary Smith drove 6 beautiful princesses around the football field track to the clapping of fans in the stands. When looking at the pictures you can see who was the happiest CCSB member of all and that was Jac whose smile tells you everything. Not only was he happy with the hug he was getting from his beautiful princess but she was also selected as the Queen which won Jac the $30 pot we all con-tribute to for the CCSB member whose princess is selected as Queen.

School authorities offered their many thanks to our club for participat-ing in their annual homecoming event and presented us with a Santa Barbara High School cap and a high school monogrammed beverage cup.

Now is your chance to win a 2009 Victory Red Corvette Coupe. Raffle tickets to benefit the National Corvette Museum are now available and are only $10 each. The drawing will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2009. This time someone in our club will win - for sure!! Please see Frank for tickets. Remember that the Museum is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit Foundation. There are mem-bership levels ranging from the New Generation for young Corvette enthusiasts to the Senior Individual membership for the young at heart. Members receive free admission to the Museum, the monthly “America’s Sports Car” Magazine, discounts when shopping in the Corvette Store and when registering for events and other benefits. If you are not a member and you want to join, please let Frank know. Our club gets credit every time one of our members joins the Museum and, in order to have an ambassador we must maintain a certain number of points each year.

Old Club Rosters should be shredded not just thrown in the trash when replaced.

Here we are starting into the fall season .. my favorite time of the year! Anne and I had a chance to break in our 2009 Coupe during the fabulous September San Simeon/Carmel run led by Inge “Gypsy” Rose and Bob Stallings. Running up Hwy 1 from Cambria to Carmel Mission and back gave me a chance to try out the 6-speed paddle shift and get a feel for the car. Even though in my opinion the manual 6-speed feel is completely different, the paddle shift had enough functionality and feel that I really enjoyed using it during the drive. Parenthetically, if your schedule permits, don’t pass up an opportunity to join in on a run led by the Stallings! They are well planned, detailed, and just plain fun. Next month, our CCSB meeting is on election day, 4 November. I will try to keep it as short as possible for those who want to view the election re-sults. Deliveries: Congratulations to Fred and Sharon Smith on the delivery of a 2008 Jetstream Blue Corvette Coupe. It’s beautiful. At the October meeting we will be previewing the activities plan for 2009 and going over the remainder of events in 2008. Are you keeping Decem-ber 13, 2008 open for the CCSB Christmas Party? Hope to see all of you at the meeting.

Old engines and valve seat recession...engines with cylinder heads manufactured prior to 1971 lack induction-hardened valve seats be-cause, back then, there was still lead in gasoline. Lead was both an anti-knock compound and a valve lubricant. If you have an old car which you drive frequently and/or drive hard, you need some type of additive to re-place lead's valve lubrication ability. The solution is Red Line "Lead Sub-stitute." It used a sodium-based chemistry to provide the valve face and seat lubrication previously provided by the lead that was once in gaso-line. Octane Boosters....the only ones capable of any practical improvement in octane all use methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl or "MMT" but...don't use MMT-based octane boosters if your engine has catalytic converters or oxygen sensors because MMT damages both. If you do use octane booster in an engine without cats or O2s, know that it's capa-ble of 1-2 octane number increase at best. The best way to increase oc-tane of 91-oct. premium unleaded is by mixing it with 100-oct unleaded racing gas. In California, gasoline contains between 5.8 and 10% ethanol (wood al-cohol). Ethanol blended gasoline can cause water to accumulate in your fuel tank. Red Line "Fuel System Water Remover and Antifreeze" will remove water from your fuel tanks when used according to the directions on the container. While the oil companies and GM insist injector additives are not neces-sary as long as you use name-brand gasoline, my testing says other-wise. For best long-term durability of fuel injectors (ie: once your car is out of warranty) my experience had been that regular use of a detergent-based injector cleaner is a good idea. Three well-known detergent-based injectors cleaners are Chevron Techron, Lucas Fuel Treatment and Red Line "SI-1 Complete Fuel System Cleaner". The best way to take care of your Corvette's injectors is the "maintenance dosage" of in-jector cleaner. At every third or fourth fill-up, add 4-oz of a detergent-based injector cleaner, like Red Line SI-1, for every ten gallons of gas. With many Vettes that works to about half a bottle of SI-1 for a full tank of gas. Red Line SI-1 can, also, solve problems with "mild cases" of dirty injectors or intake valves. If you have either of those problems use the "shock treatment" which is one full bottle per tankful of SI-1 for three fill-ups in a row. For more information on Red Line products and to order Red Line prod-ucts on-line, go to: http://www.redlineoil.com/ Lastly, for those interested to learning more about oil and fuel additives, "Corvette Enthusiast" magazine will publish a series of articles starting in January 2009 on Corvette engine oils and oil additives and Corvette gasoline and gas additive facts.
