CORPUS CHRISTI CATHOLIC SCHOOL 1 2 July 2015 NEWSLETTER Number 11 From the Principal… Mary Turnock Principal Dear Parents/Guardians TAKE TIME God my Father and Creator, you teach me to take time to be and to become. To make space for rest and relaxation, and not to be always “getting things done!” You teach me to honour the Sabbath as a day of worship and rest A day for celebrating your presence with joy and for doing the things I like best. Sometimes I forget how important it is to make space for the Spirit within To make time for enjoying the gift of life, so help me today to begin. Help me to slow down and take this time to renew and replenish my Spirit. That I may be able to serve you better and all to whom I am committed. Amen. As we are beginning our Term Two break tomorrow, I felt the prayer above appropriate to help us stop and think about why we have a break from our every day routines and reflect on the term we have had and give thanks for all the learning, interactions, planning and support we have received during the term. It is important that we take time to “be present with others” and rejoice in the time we have to share with our family and friends. It is also important to ensure we slow down and take time to replenish and renew our own “Spirit” in order to be present to each other. I wish all families the very best for a restful break over the holidays and hope you are able to enjoy some quality time with your children and families. Term Three arrangements: As you are aware, I will be on Renewal Leave during Term Three and Mrs Rachel Kelly will be Acting Principal during that time. Mrs Dana McCallum and Mrs Allison Wheatley will be teaching Grade 6KW apart from the first week of Term Two when Mrs McCallum will be teaching Grade 5M and Mrs Wheatley will be teaching Grade 6KW, as Mrs McGann is on Long Service Leave for the first week of Term Three. Other changes for the term are: Mrs Donna Banks will be Assistant Principal-Learning/Teaching on a Thursday and Friday and Mrs Ros Wilson will be replacing Donna in Grade 3B on these days. Congratulations: Congratulations to the Grade 1 and 2 children who attended 10:30am Mass at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on Sunday last week and for participating in the Offertory Procession and the beautiful way they sang the Reflection Hymn, you can all feel very proud of yourselves. Thank you, to all the parents and staff who came along to support the children, it was a wonderful occasion.

Jump Rope for Heart: Congratulations to all Grades from Kindergarten through to Grade 6 for the fantastic job they did with Jump Rope For Heart this week. The children had been skipping for several weeks and participated in “Jump Off Day” on Tuesday 30 June. All the children did an amazing job, had a lot of fun and exercise to assist those who are not as fortunate as us. At this stage we do not know the amount of money raised from sponsorship. Thank you to all participants and sponsors for your fantastic support.

Library Update - Term 2, 2015 Mrs Erica Halley and Mrs Jenny Brighella

Many parents came to see the Grade 6 Anzac Museum in a Box projects displayed in our library. They were very impressive. The grade 6 students also made anzac biscuits which were very yummy. Our kindergarten students have been studying Australian animals and their art work was a wonderfully imaginative and colourful addition to our library displays this term. We had some spiders creep into our library as well, luckily for us they were from the Tasmanian Museum, as well as some furry friends The Southern Brown Bandicoots. Our library students learned about the animals species, diet and habitat. Thank you to the grade 6 and Kindergarten students for sharing their very interesting, informative and creative work with us.

Wishing our Corpus Christi community a wonderful, safe

and fun holiday break with family and friends.

Woolworths Earn & Learn 2015 This year we will be participating in the Woolworths Earn & Learn program. Through this program we will be able to get new educational resources for our school/early learning centre – and all we need you to do is shop for your groceries at Woolworths. From Wednesday 15 July to Tuesday 8 September, we are collecting Woolworths Earn & Learn Stickers. You will get one Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker for every $10 spent (excluding liquor, tobacco and gift cards). Place the Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker onto a Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheet and when it’s complete, the Sticker Sheet can be dropped into the Collection Box here at the school or at Eastlands or Shoreline Woolworths.

At the end of the promotion, we’ll be able to get some great new equipment. The range is extensive and offers lots of items ideal for our students – including resources for Maths, English, Science and some fantastic fun supplies for Arts & Craft, Sport and for our library.
