Our Next Season by Pastor Eli

Seasons. I love the anticipation that comes with seasons. The change. The chance for new. The remembrance of past. As summer arrives, the Shackelfords talk through who we want to be and how we will use this season for growth.

We plan trips.

We put worship gatherings on the calendar.

We dust off the backpacking gear.

Some of us are specific: Riley and Baylee commit to journaling every day. I have a list of climbs in the

Wasatch that I will go after. Lindsay begins a reading plan that will take her through the Bible in 90 days. Did I mention that she is an overachiever?

Other thoughts and dreams are more general: I want to grow in prayer and purpose. Raelyn hopes to dial in her flips and spins in gymnastics. I want to take every kid on some kind of wilderness adventure. We pray that our eyes would see the people that God calls us to reach this summer and that new relationships would grow.

I have a whole set of dreams for Cornerstone too. Just like the ambitions in my life and desires

in my heart, some are general and some are specific:

• How does God want to use this season to plant, and water, and grow his people?

• What things is He whispering to us as church?

• What is He preparing us for?• How does he want to stretch us?• Who does He want us to find?Join us this summer at any of our informal gatherings to explore some of these questions. We will be meeting at parks, concerts, and other events weekly all over our city to be in community together. We also have parties of 20 planned

throughout the summer to help us discover what God is up to this season and the next.My wife often picks a word to define each season. A word that will set the tone for the following months. A way of putting a thought to the stirring of the soul. Not a goal, so much as a theme. A focus. An intention. Her word for her summer is simply ‘READ’. Mine is ‘PREPARE’.

Perhaps putting a word to this season of your life would be a step towards the summer that God desires for you. If you have one, would you share it at some point over the summer as we spend time together?

Looking forward to hearing your word. Cheers to a great season. May God work His ways in you.

Prayer at CornerstoneHere are some ways to join in prayer.

• Prayer Meeting: June 7th, 7 pm at the church.

• Leadership: Pray for Eli, staff, elders, deacons. Pray for unity, vision, and energy.

• Kids and youth: Pray that kids in our neighborhood and congregation, out of school, will have God’s protection and guidance.

• Mission: Pray we will have a vision for God’s mission.

• Orphans, widows, and foreigners: Pray that God will give us his heart for these groups, so often mentioned in his Word that we know they are deeply close to his heart.

MORE LIFE TOGETHER

NEW! Thursday Night Small GroupA new Small Group has started on Thursday Nights in West Jordan (not far from the church!).

The “Better In Life Together” (BILT) Small Group is meeting weekly through the summer and is open to anyone interested in building closer relationships with people in the church.

We’ll eat at 6:00 p.m. (bring your own dinner, please!) and start our meeting at 7:00 p.m. Come for dinner if you’d like a longer time of fellowship or just come for the meeting, where we’ll discuss the previous Sunday’s message. We’ve decided we’d like to be a group that shares life together so we are interested in knowing and being involved in each other’s lives.

If this sounds appealing to you, please contact Josh Speulda (801-580-1451) for more information.

Mexico Mission Food DonationsOur Mexico Mission Team is gearing up for their homebuilding mission trip in July—and they need help with food donations for the trip.

Watch for a poster in the gymnasium listing what items (and quatities) are needed. Sign up to bring whatever you can help the team with. All food donations are needed at the church no later than Sunday, June 19th.

If giving money is more convenient than shopping, please designate your gifts as “MEXICO” and place them in the offering plate on any Sunday. (Donations may also be mailed to the church.) Questions? Contact Josh Speulda at 801 580-1451.

Fellowship/Hospitality Ministry EvaluationThe Hospitality & Fellowship Task Force is starting up on Monday, June 5th. The purpose of the Task Force is to evaluate our current Hospitality & Fellowship ministries to be sure they’re in line with our Mission and Vision Statements. If you’re interested in helping us evaluate our current Hospitality & Fellowship ministries, are currently serving in these ministries, or have an interest in them, please join in these meetings. The first meeting will be at the Speulda’s home in West Jordan – Monday, June 5th at 7:00 p.m. Contact Josh Speulda for more information Questions? Contact Josh Speulda at 801 580-1451.

BRIGHT IDEAS, BIG NEWS

Congregational Meeting

We have a Congregational Meeting on June 12th, following the worship service. During this meeting, we will vote to accept (or not) a couple recommended changes to the Policy Manual to clarify which leaders of the church need to be certified in our Child Safety Program. Copies of the proposed changes are available from the Church Office (801-568-0954).

Music Minister Appreciation

We’ve designated July as our Music Minister Appreciation month.

If you’d like to contribute to our “thank you” fund, please designate your gifts as “Appreciation” and place them in the offering plate. (Please remember not to write an individual’s name on the check that you write to the church.) Questions? Contact Denny Taylor at [email protected].

End-of-year Kids Club party! We played water balloon games, had ice cream sundaes, celebrated 5th graders moving on to the youth group, and remembered our favorite parts of God’s Big Story. Thanks to Becky Speulda for putting it together!
