Machine embroidery applique les are available for purchase if you would prefer to use your embroidery machine to complete your project this month. Visit the Party with Patrick embroidery page at PatrickLose.com.

1. From the White fabric, cut a 5½ x 24” strip. From this strip, cut four 5½ x 5½” blocks.

2. From the Black fabric, cut three 2¼” strips from selvage to selvage. Set two aside to be used for the binding. From the remaining strip, cut sixteen 1½ x 2¼” patches for the border.

3. From each of the Red and Green fabrics, cut a 1½ x 14” strip. From the strips, cut eight 1½ x 1½” patches for the border.

4. Trace the templates onto the paper side of your fusible adhesive leaving approximately ½” between tracings. Trace the dashed stitching lines also, if desired.

5. Roughly cut the templates from the adhesive just outside of the traced line.

6. Place the adhesive templates onto the wrong side of their corresponding fabrics and fuse in place according to manufacturer’s instructions.

7. Neatly cut the appliques from the fabrics on the traced template lines.

8. Transfer the dashed stitching lines to the right side of the fabric, if desired. You can use a light table or daylit window.

9. Peel the paper backing from the appliques and center them on the White blocks. Fuse appliques into place.

10. Place a piece of Sulky Tear-Easy stabilizer behind each applique and satin stitch the raw edges, using Sulky Premium 40 wt rayon thread. Remove the stabilizer after stitching. For the center line in the leaves, a triple stitch works well.

11. Refer to the Piecing Diagrams and proceed with piecing the quilt top.

12. Sandwich top, batting and backing and quilt as desired.

13. Bind as usual, using the Black binding strips created in step 1, above.

14. Add a hanging sleeve, if desired. Instructions are available at: http://www.patricklose.net/instructiondownloads.htm
